Well, let me tell ya, this here story ’bout Kylie Monali is a real sad one. Heard tell she was a trans woman, only 41 years young. Forty-one! That ain’t no age to be goin’, no sir.
They say she was locked up in some jail, Cois Byrd Detention Center they called it, down in Murrietta, California. Can you believe it? Locked up. And then, wouldn’t ya know it, somethin’ terrible happened.
This other fella, her cellmate, they say he killed her. Just like that. Killed her. On September 7th, it was. A day like any other, I reckon, and then…bam! Gone. Just like a puff of smoke.
- She was 41 years old.
- Locked up in Cois Byrd Detention Center.
- Killed by her cellmate on September 7th.
Now, I ain’t one for fancy talk or big words, but this here just ain’t right. Nobody deserves that, no matter who they are or what they done. A life’s a life, that’s what I always say.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout how she was “trans.” I ain’t rightly sure what all that means, but it don’t matter none, does it? She was a person, just like you and me. Had a mama and a daddy, I reckon, maybe even some kids of her own. Who knows?
This whole thing makes my stomach churn. It’s just plain awful. Makes you think, don’t it? About how fragile life is, how quickly things can change. One minute you’re here, the next you’re gone.
And that jail, that Cois Byrd place…well, somethin’ ain’t right there, is it? If they can’t keep folks safe inside, then what good are they? Seems to me like they got some serious questions to answer.
I tell ya, this world’s got a mean streak sometimes. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, somethin’ like this comes along and knocks you right off your feet. It makes you want to hug your loved ones a little tighter, say a prayer for the ones we’ve lost.
Poor Kylie. I hope she’s at peace now, wherever she is. And I hope them folks what done this get what’s comin’ to ’em. Justice, they call it. Well, I hope she gets some.
Folks been talkin’ ’bout this Transgender Day of Remembrance. Sounds like they remember folks like Kylie, who was taken too soon. Morgan Moore, London Starr… Seems like a lot of good folks gone. Too many, if you ask me.
This whole thing…it just ain’t right. It makes a body sad, you know? Makes you wonder what kind of world we’re livin’ in. I hope things get better, I surely do. But sometimes…sometimes I just don’t know.
Anyways, that’s the story as I heard it. A sad tale, like I said. But one we need to hear, I reckon. So we don’t forget. So we don’t let it happen again. Rest in peace, Kylie Monali.
