Well, I gotta tell ya ’bout this Ociel Baena person. Heard about ’em on the news, real sad story, y’know? They was from Mexico, yeah, Mexico. Important person, they say. A judge, kinda like them folks who decide who’s right and who’s wrong in them courtrooms you see on TV.
Now, this Ociel, they wasn’t just any judge. They was… how do I say it… different. Not like us regular folks, I guess. They called themselves “non-binary.” Don’t ask me what that means exactly, somethin’ about not bein’ just a man or a woman, I reckon. Confusin’, if you ask me, but hey, to each their own, right? They used “they/them” words when folks talked about ’em, not “he” or “she.” Like talkin’ ’bout more than one person, but it was just the one Ociel.
Anyways, Ociel was a big deal for them LGBTQ+ folks. You know, the gays and lesbians and all them. Fought for their rights, they did. Made sure they got treated fair, I suppose. Even got themselves a special passport, the first one like it in Mexico, I heard. A “non-binary” passport, imagine that! Musta been somethin’ special.
- They were the first non-binary magistrate in Latin America, that’s what I heard. Fancy, ain’t it?
- They fought for LGBTQ+ rights, bless their heart.
- They even got a special passport, a non-binary one. Who knew they had them things?
But here’s the real sad part. This Ociel, they found ’em dead. Yeah, dead, in their own home. And not just them, but their partner too. Dorian, that was their name. Two of ’em, gone just like that. Awful, just awful. Nobody knows for sure what happened, but folks are sayin’ maybe it was ’cause of who they was, ’cause of what they stood for. Makes you think, don’t it? The world can be a cruel place, even for fancy judges.
They found ’em in Aguascalientes, that’s where they lived. A city in Mexico, I think. Heard it on the news. Folks are real upset, marchin’ and shoutin’, wantin’ answers. And they got a right to be, I say. Nobody deserves to die like that, no matter who they are or what they believe. It ain’t right.
This Ociel, they were a trailblazer, that’s what they called ‘em. Like one of them folks who makes a path where there wasn’t one before. For them non-binary folks, for the LGBTQ+ community, they were a big deal. And now they’re gone. Just like that.
It makes you think, you know? About how people treat each other, about how dangerous the world can be just for bein’ different. This Ociel, they were just tryin’ to live their life, tryin’ to make things better for others. And look what happened. It’s a damn shame, that’s what it is. A real damn shame.
I don’t know much about all this fancy judge stuff or them different ways of bein’, but I know this: Nobody should be hurt or killed for who they are. It’s just plain wrong. And I hope they find out who did this to Ociel and their partner, and I hope them folks get what’s comin’ to ‘em. That’s all I gotta say.
Folks was sayin’ Ociel even had a bodyguard, you know, someone to keep ’em safe. But somethin’ still happened. Makes you wonder if anyone’s really safe in this world. It’s a scary thought. They say this happened in November, not too long ago. Just a few months back. Still fresh in folks’ minds, I bet.
And I heard they was on TV just before… you know… doin’ an interview. Talkin’ about their life, about bein’ a judge. Seemed happy enough, they did. Never woulda guessed what was gonna happen. It’s a cruel world, I tell ya, a cruel world.
Well, that’s all I know about this Ociel Baena. A sad story, but an important one, I reckon. Makes you think about how we treat each other, and how we gotta stand up for what’s right, even when it ain’t easy. ‘Cause nobody deserves to end up like Ociel and Dorian. Nobody.
