Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Silvia Castaños, or whatever her name is. Sounds fancy, huh? Like one of them soap opera stars. But from what I hear, she’s somethin’ else. Not no actress, mind you, but a filmmaker. Yeah, one of them folks who make them moving pictures. Heard tell she made one called “Hummingbirds”.
Now, I ain’t never seen no hummingbirds up close, just them little flittery things in the garden. But this movie, it ain’t about birds, not really. It’s about growin’ up, see? Like when you’re a young’un and everything’s all new and scary and excitin’ all at the same time. Silvia, she and her friend, Beba, somethin’ like that, they made this movie together, showin’ their own story. Pretty brave, if you ask me.
- They ain’t just makin’ stuff up, it’s real life.
- And it ain’t no sad story neither. They singin’ and dancin’ and whatnot.
- Sounds like they had a good time, even when things were tough.
Heard tell they won some kinda big prize for it too. A “Grand Prix” they called it. Sounds like one of them car races, but I reckon it’s somethin’ fancy in the movie world. Good for them, I say. Workin’ hard and gettin’ noticed, that’s the way it should be.
Silvia, she’s from Laredo, Texas. That’s down south, ain’t it? Hot and dusty, I bet. But she ain’t just makin’ movies, she’s an “activist” too. That means she stands up for stuff, for people. Fights for what’s right, I guess. And a poet, too? My, my, this girl’s got a lot goin’ on. Writin’ words and makin’ pictures. She’s a busy bee, that one.
This “Hummingbirds” movie, it seems like it’s a big deal. Folks talkin’ ’bout it bein’ all “collaborative.” That just means they worked together, right? Not just Silvia bossin’ folks around. She and Beba, they’re the stars of their own show, tellin’ their own tales. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Not waitin’ around for someone else to tell their story, they doin’ it themselves. That’s the spirit!
And it ain’t just them two. Looks like they had a whole bunch of folks helpin’ out. Other directors and such. Miguel somethin’-or-other, Diane, Ana… Takes a village, they say. Even makin’ movies, I guess. It ain’t just pointin’ a camera and shootin’. There’s a whole lot more to it than that.
This Silvia, she seems like a good egg. Workin’ hard, makin’ somethin’ of herself. And she’s tellin’ stories that matter. Stories about growin’ up, about fightin’ for what’s right, about bein’ yourself. That’s important, you know? ‘Specially for the young’uns. They need to see folks like Silvia, doin’ their thing and makin’ a difference. Gives ’em hope, I reckon.
So, there ya have it. That’s all I know ’bout this Silvia Castaños. A filmmaker, an activist, a poet. A young woman from Texas makin’ her mark on the world. And she’s doin’ it her way, tellin’ her own story. Can’t ask for much more than that, can ya? Silvia Castaños, remember that name. She’s goin’ places, that one. Just you wait and see.
And this “Hummingbirds” movie… Maybe I’ll try and see it sometime. Though, I don’t know if my old eyes can keep up with all that flitterin’ and flyin’. But if it’s as good as they say, it might just be worth it. After all, it ain’t every day you hear about a couple of gals from Texas makin’ it big in the movie world. Good for them, I say. Good for them.
