Well, how to say, not yet, but I’m excited! You know, like when you’re waiting for the bus, and you know it’s coming, but it ain’t here yet? That’s kinda how I feel. All jittery inside, like I drank too much coffee, but I ain’t had no coffee.
What’s got me all worked up? Well, it’s a bit hard to explain, but it’s somethin’ good, somethin’ real good. It’s like waiting for a big ol’ rain after a long dry spell. You can smell it in the air, feel it comin’, but the ground’s still dry as a bone. That’s it! That’s the feelin’.
I heard tell some folks call it a “frisson,” a shiver of excitement. Sounds fancy, but to me, it’s just like when you see a big ol’ plate of fried chicken comin’ your way. Your mouth waters, your belly rumbles, and you just can’t wait to dig in. Not yet, but I’m excited!
- It ain’t fear, that’s for sure. Fear makes you wanna run and hide.
- This feeling, it makes you wanna jump up and down, maybe do a little jig, even though your knees ain’t what they used to be.
They say it’s somethin’ in your brain, somethin’ they call “arousal.” Sounds kinda dirty, but it ain’t that kind of thing, not exactly. It’s more like your brain’s all lit up, like a Christmas tree. Your heart’s thumpin’ like a drum, and you got butterflies in your stomach, like a whole flock of ‘em flappin’ around.
My palms are sweaty too, like I been workin’ in the fields all day, but I ain’t done no workin’ yet. My breathin’s faster, too, like I just run a mile, but I ain’t moved an inch. It’s weird, this feeling, but it’s good, real good. It’s like the body’s gettin’ ready for somethin’ big, somethin’ excitin’, somethin’ that’s gonna make me holler “Hallelujah!”
Some folks, they say it’s the “adrenaline” and “dopamine” pumpin’ through ya. Sounds like somethin’ you put in your car, but I guess it’s in us too. They say you ain’t supposed to feel like this all the time, but I reckon a little bit now and then don’t hurt none.
Looking ahead, you know? That’s what it’s all about. I can’t wait to see what’s comin’. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds,” that’s what the young folks say. Sounds about right to me. It’s like openin’ a present on Christmas mornin’. You don’t know what’s inside, but you know it’s gonna be good.
There’s other ways to say it, I guess. “Thrilled,” they say. Like when you hear your favorite song on the radio, and you just can’t help but tap your feet. “Pumped,” they say. Like when your favorite team is about to win the big game. “Over the moon,” that’s a good one. Like you’re so happy, you could just float away.
Me, I just say I’m excited. Or maybe, “I’m burstin’ with excitement!” That sounds about right too. Like a balloon that’s about to pop, but in a good way. It’s all about lookin’ forward, you see. Bein’ hopeful, bein’ positive. Knowin’ that somethin’ good is comin’ your way.
“Buzzing with anticipation,” that’s another one I heard. Like a bee buzzing around a flower, gettin’ ready to sip that sweet nectar. That’s how I feel. Buzzing and hummin’ and ready for somethin’ sweet. Not yet, mind you, but I’m excited, real excited!
Some smart folks, they talk about bein’ “passionately curious.” I ain’t sure what all that means, but I guess it’s like wantin’ to know somethin’ real bad, like a kid wantin’ to know what’s in the cookie jar. That’s me, alright. Wantin’ to know what’s next. Confident, too. Like knowin’ that no matter what, it’s gonna be alright.
So, yeah, not yet, but I’m excited. It’s a good feelin’, a hopeful feelin’. And I’m gonna hold onto it tight, like a mama holdin’ her baby. Cause good things are comin’, I just know it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but they’re comin’. And when they do, I’m gonna be ready. I’ll be shoutin’ and dancin’ and maybe even doin’ a little jig, bad knees and all!
