Okay, so my little bro is turning six, and I wanted to make something special for him. I decided to write him a bunch of little notes, you know, things he can look back on. Here’s how I did it:

Brainstorming Time
First, I just grabbed a piece of paper and started jotting down anything that came to mind. I thought about things like:
- Funny memories we have together
- Things I admire about him (even though he’s a little rascal)
- Advice for being six (like, “Don’t eat yellow snow,” haha)
- Just general “I love you” type stuff
It was a total mess at first, just random thoughts all over the page. It is a process of releasing.
Getting Organized
After I had a good brain dump going, I started to organize my thoughts a bit. I grouped similar ideas together. Like, all the funny memories went in one section, all the advice in another, and so on.
Writing the Actual Notes
I put my creative cap on here. I have to write in a way that a six-year-old is going to be able to read and understand. So I have to give up the idea of being cool and profound.
Then I got some colorful index cards and started writing the notes. I tried to keep them short and sweet. For example:

- “Remember that time you tried to flush your toys down the toilet? Classic!”
- “You’re the best fort builder I know.”
- “Always be kind to others, even when they’re being annoying.”
- “I love you more than pizza!” (That’s a big deal, LOL)
Making it Look Nice
I didn’t want to just hand him a stack of cards, so I found an old box and decorated it with stickers and drawings. It is an old cookie box. It is perfect. Then I put all the notes inside. It is simple, I am not a handy man.
The Big Reveal
I gave him the box on his birthday, and he was so excited! He loved reading all the notes, and I think it’s something he’ll keep for a long time. It was totally worth the effort to see his face light up.
Mission accomplished! I have created a simple and lovely birthday gift for my little brother!
