Well, bless your heart, let’s talk about this Donald Trump fella and what he’s been sayin’ about them LGBTQ folks. I ain’t no fancy lawyer or nothin’, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two, and I’ll tell ya what I reckon.
Does Donald Trump Want to Take LGBTQ Rights? That’s the big question, ain’t it? It’s all over the news, folks chatterin’ about it at the grocery store. Seems like every time you turn around, he’s sayin’ somethin’ new. Now, I ain’t got no dog in this fight, but I do believe in treatin’ folks fair and square.
From what I hear, some folks are worried. They say he wants to roll back them rights they fought so hard for. You know, the right to get hitched to whoever you love, the right to be treated the same as everyone else. And that worries me, it surely does.
- Marriage Equality: Folks are sayin’ he might try to mess with that. Now, I don’t see why anyone would want to stop two people who love each other from gettin’ hitched. It ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
- Protection from Discrimination: They got laws now, you know, to keep folks from gettin’ fired or kicked out of their homes just ’cause of who they love. Some worry Trump wants to get rid of them laws.
- Bathroom Bills: Remember all that fuss about which bathroom folks should use? Sounds silly to me, but it’s a big deal to some, and Trump’s said some things about it.
Now, I’ve been listenin’ to him speak, and it ain’t always easy to figure out what he really means. He says one thing one day, and somethin’ different the next. He’s a slippery one, that fella. He talks about “traditional marriage” a lot, which makes some folks nervous. But then he also says he’s for all Americans, which sounds nice enough.
He’s been in office before, and folks are lookin’ back at what he did. Some say he wasn’t so bad, others say he did some damage. It’s hard to say for sure. He appointed some judges that folks didn’t like, judges who might not be too friendly to LGBTQ rights. But he also didn’t go after them rights as hard as some folks thought he would.
But then again, he surrounds himself with some folks who are downright against LGBTQ rights. You know, those preachers and politicians who are always talkin’ about “God’s law” and all that. And that makes me wonder what he’d really do if he got back in power.
What Trump supporters are saying is a whole ‘nother thing. Some of them are loud and proud about not liking them LGBTQ folks. They cheer when Trump says things that sound like he’s against them. But others say they don’t care about that stuff, they just like his stance on other things like jobs and the economy. It’s a real mixed bag.
And let’s not forget the Democrats. They’re all riled up about this, sayin’ Trump is a danger to LGBTQ rights. They’re usin’ it to try and get folks to vote against him. And that’s their job, I guess, to get folks on their side.
I’ve been around long enough to see a lot of changes. Things that used to be hidden are now out in the open. Folks are more free to be themselves, and that’s a good thing. I don’t want to see us go backwards. I don’t want to see anyone treated like they’re less than.
So, what’s the bottom line? Well, I reckon nobody knows for sure what Donald Trump really wants to do about LGBTQ rights. He’s a hard man to read. But I do know this: it’s important to pay attention to what he says and what he does. And it’s important to stand up for what’s right, even if it ain’t easy. We gotta treat each other with kindness and respect, no matter who we love or how we live our lives. That’s what I believe, anyway.
He’s been talkin’ ‘bout this election and what he’ll do if he wins. Reached by phone in the days following the election, he said all sorts of things, but you can’t always take what he says at face value. You gotta look at the bigger picture, see what he’s done in the past and who he’s hangin’ around with now.
I’ve seen folks change their minds before. Maybe Trump will too. Maybe he’ll realize that LGBTQ rights ain’t about politics, they’re about people. They’re about lettin’ folks live their lives without fear and discrimination. I hope so, I surely do. ‘Cause at the end of the day, we are all just people tryin’ to get by.
