Well, let me tell you, this whole thing about is masterburation a sin, it’s got folks all riled up. Some folks say it’s bad, some say it ain’t. Me, I just listen to what the good book says, you know? And sometimes, what people say the good book says, and what that old book actually says, well, they ain’t always the same thing, you see?

Now, some folks, they point to that part in the Bible, 1 Corinthians 7:2, they say that proves it. They say that means doing it to yourself is wrong. But if you really look at it, that verse, it don’t say nothin’ ’bout that. It just talks about gettin’ hitched to keep from burnin’ with, you know, that fire down there. So, is masterburation a sin? I don’t think that proves anything.
Some other folks, they like to say it’s selfish. You’re just pleasin’ yourself, ain’t thinkin’ of nobody else. They say that’s a sin, that selfishness. Well, I reckon there’s some truth to that. We should be thinkin’ ’bout others, helpin’ folks out, not just always doin’ what feels good to us. That’s what that Bible teaches, to love your neighbor, and all that.
- Some people say it’s a sin.
- Some people say it’s not a sin.
- Some people say it’s selfish.
But then again, ain’t nobody perfect. We all do things that ain’t right sometimes. We all got our little ways, things we do when nobody’s lookin’. And who’s to say what’s right and wrong for everybody? We all gotta answer to the good Lord someday, and He’ll know what’s in our hearts. The Bible is important, sure, but it don’t always spell everything out clear as day.
I heard some young folks talkin’ ’bout it the other day. They were sayin’ it’s just a natural thing, like eatin’ or sleepin’. They said everybody does it, even animals. Well, I don’t know about all that. Animals do lots of things we don’t do. Just ’cause they do it don’t make it right for us. We got a higher callin’, you see. But is masterburation a sin? I ain’t so sure about that either.
Now, there’s that story in the Bible about Onan. Some folks say that’s about doin’ it to yourself, but that ain’t quite right. He was supposed to, you know, make a baby with his brother’s wife, and he didn’t do it right. That’s what got him in trouble. So, that story don’t really answer our question, does it? Still wondering, is masterburation a sin?

Then you got some folks sayin’ it’s a sin if you’re thinkin’ bad thoughts while you’re doin’ it. Like if you’re thinkin’ about someone you ain’t married to, or somethin’ like that. Well, that makes sense. The Bible says lustin’ after someone in your heart is like doin’ the deed, so that’s probably a sin, right? So maybe masterburation ain’t always a sin, but it can be if you do it the wrong way?
Here’s what I think. If you’re doin’ it all the time, and it’s takin’ over your life, and you ain’t thinkin’ about God or your family or your chores or nothin’, then yeah, that’s probably a problem. Anything that takes you away from what’s important, that ain’t good. That’s like that verse about bein’ controlled by somethin’. 1 Corinthians 7:2, 5, you know? That could be it. Habitual self-indulgence is for sure not a good thing.
- Thinking bad thoughts can make it a sin.
- If it controls your life, that’s no good.
- Anything that takes you away from God is bad.
But if you’re just doin’ it every now and then, and it ain’t hurtin’ nobody, and you’re still livin’ a good life, followin’ God’s word, bein’ kind to folks, well… I don’t know. Maybe it ain’t the worst thing in the world. We all got our weaknesses, you know? This whole is masterburation a sin thing, it ain’t so black and white.
I remember old Pastor Johnson, he used to say, “The Lord looks at the heart.” He said it don’t matter so much what you do, as why you do it. If your heart’s in the right place, if you’re tryin’ to do good, then maybe God will understand. He knows we ain’t perfect. He knows we mess up sometimes. That’s why He sent Jesus, to forgive us for our sins, you know?
So, is masterburation a sin? I reckon the answer is, it depends. It depends on your heart, it depends on your reasons, it depends on how it affects your life. It’s somethin’ you gotta figure out for yourself, with God’s help. Just pray about it, read your Bible, and try to do what’s right. That’s all any of us can do, ain’t it? And remember pleasure is not everything. The Bible has many other things to say.
