Alright, so I recently decided to dive back into the world of online dating. I’ve been around the block a few times with these apps, but this time I chose Hinge. The reason I gave Hinge a shot is because I heard it was more about “real connections” and less about just swiping left and right. It’s all about these things called “prompts” that you answer to show off your personality. I was a little skeptical, but I figured, why not give it a try?

Getting Started
First, I downloaded the app and set up a basic profile. You know, the usual – picked a few decent photos of myself (no bathroom selfies, promise!), and filled in the basics like age, location, job. But then came the prompts. These are supposed to be the meat of your profile, where you show what you’re all about.
Choosing the Right Prompts
Hinge gives you tons of prompts to choose from, so it took me a while to decide which ones to use. I mean, you want to sound interesting, right? But not like you’re trying too hard. It’s like trying to cook a meal that’s impressive but doesn’t take all day. I spent a good hour just browsing through them, trying to figure out what vibe I wanted to give off. Did I want to be funny? Sincere? A bit of both? After picking the prompts that I think represent me best, I started working on my answers.
Crafting My Answers
This was the tricky part. I wanted my answers to be genuine, but also catchy enough to make someone stop and read.
- “Dating Me Is Like…” I went with something like “finding an extra chicken nugget in your order – unexpected but awesome.” Cheesy, I know, but it got a few laughs.
- “I’m weirdly attracted to…” Here, I put “people who are passionate about something, anything really. It’s just attractive when someone really cares about something.” I figured that was a good way to show I value passion.
- “My most irrational fear…” I wrote “being stuck in a conversation where no one is using Hinge prompts to keep it interesting.” A little meta, but hey, it’s honest.
I spent a good chunk of time writing and rewriting these answers. I was trying to strike that balance between being myself and being, you know, someone people would want to date. It’s a weird thing, trying to condense your personality into a few sentences.
Putting it Out There
Once I was finally happy with my answers, I took a deep breath and hit “publish.” It’s always a bit nerve-wracking putting yourself out there like that. I felt like I was sending my little profile out into the world, hoping it would come back with some friends. I checked the app every few hours, which I know is a bit much, but I was curious.

The Results
To my surprise, people actually started responding! I got some likes on my photos, but more importantly, people were commenting on my prompt answers. I had some fun conversations, and even a few that turned into actual dates. It was way more engaging than just swiping through endless profiles.
So, that’s my Hinge prompt adventure. It was a bit of work, but it was definitely worth it. I feel like I learned a lot about myself in the process, and I got to meet some interesting people along the way. If you’re thinking about trying Hinge, I say go for it. Just be yourself, have fun with the prompts, and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised!
