Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them trans folks. Do they like silly things? Shoot, everyone likes silly things, don’t they? It ain’t got nothin’ to do with bein’ trans, I reckon. You like what you like, that’s all there is to it.
See, these trans folks, they just like everyone else. Some like cars, some like dolls, some like buildin’ things, and some like singin’ and dancin’. Just like you and me and that fella down the road with the funny hat.
I heard tell they get to pick their own names. That’s kinda neat, ain’t it? Most folks get stuck with whatever their mama and daddy give ’em, but these trans folks, they get to choose. Good for them, I say.
And pronouns, you know, he, she, they… Folks are learnin’ to use the right ones for these trans people. It’s just bein’ polite, like sayin’ please and thank you. Nothin’ fancy, just treatin’ folks right. Ain’t that what we’re always taught to do?
- Some folks make a big fuss about it, but it ain’t that hard. If someone tells you they’re a “she,” then call ’em “she.” If they say “he,” call ’em “he.” Simple as pie.
- It’s like if someone tells you they like their coffee with two sugars, you give ’em two sugars, right? You don’t argue with ’em about it.
Now, I hear tell these trans folks got their own stories to tell. They see things different, maybe. See how men and women get treated different, see how folks who don’t fit in get treated. They got somethin’ to say, and we ought to listen sometimes. Everybody has different life experiences, don’t they? It’s kinda obvious if you think on it.
They’re on TV now, and in the newspapers, and all over the internet. More folks know about ’em now, and that’s probably a good thing. Hard to be scared of somethin’ you know somethin’ about, ain’t it?
I even heard tell about some folks sharin’ stories on that Twitter thing. Talkin’ about how their families and friends are treatin’ ’em. Sounds like some folks are real supportive, and some ain’t. Same as it ever was, I guess.
This Pride Month, they’re askin’ trans folks to talk about the things that matter to ’em. Big things, small things, all kinds of things. It’s good to hear what folks care about, no matter who they are.
Some of them trans women, they do things to make themselves feel better. Change their hair, or their clothes, or even change their bodies. If it makes ’em happy, then more power to ’em, I say. Everyone needs some fixing now and again I reckon.
I saw some funny gifts for them trans folks too. Pins with them furry things, and games, and even books for little babies. It’s all just stuff, you know? Folks like stuff, no matter who they are.
And get this, trans folks are makin’ friends and getting support. Buildin’ friendships with other trans folks, that is. Helps them to feel good about themselves. Everyone needs a friend or two, even me!
One person, they said bein’ trans was like finally havin’ a clear mind. Like gettin’ rid of a headache you didn’t even know you had. They said their feelings were deeper too, both the happy ones and the sad ones. Sounds like a big change, that’s for sure.
So, do trans people like silly things? Sure they do. They like all kinds of things. They’re just people, tryin’ to live their lives like the rest of us. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. Just folks, plain and simple.
Just gotta remember what my mama always told me “Treat folks like you wanna be treated.” That’s all there is to it and that’s the truth, the whole truth, and nothin’ but the truth, so help me God.
