Well, let me tell ya, this here Florida Senate race in 2024, it’s got some characters, that’s for sure. Heard tell there’s gonna be some fellas runnin’ who like other fellas. Gay candidates, they call ’em. Now, I ain’t got nothin’ against nobody, long as they’re good folks, but it’s somethin’ new, ain’t it?
Seems like there’s a whole bunch of ’em runnin’ for all sorts of things this year. LGBTQ+ politicians, they got a fancy name for ’em. Heard on the radio, more than a thousand of ’em runnin’ everywhere, even for Congress! That’s a lot of folks, if you ask me.
Down here in Florida, though, we’re talkin’ ’bout the Senate. That’s a big deal. Folks gettin’ all riled up about it. This fella, Rick Scott, he’s already in there, but there’s some folks tryin’ to take his spot. And then there’s this lady, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, she used to be in the House, and folks seem to like her alright. They say she’s on the offense, whatever that means. Sounds like she’s ready for a fight, though, that’s for sure.
Heard tell of another race, for the House, not the Senate, mind you. Two fellas, both likin’ other fellas, thought they had it in the bag. But those Republicans, they held on tight. And them trans candidates, the ones tryin’ to make history? Didn’t win neither. Guess folks ain’t quite ready for all that change just yet.
I remember back when, politics was just about gettin’ the roads fixed and keepin’ the taxes down. Now, it’s all this and that, and who’s sleepin’ with who. Makes an old lady’s head spin, it does.
- So, you got Rick Scott, the fella already in there.
- You got Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the lady tryin’ to take his spot.
- And then you got all these other folks runnin’, some of ’em gay, some of ’em not.
It’s gonna be a barn burner, that’s what my grandson tells me. Means it’s gonna be a close one, a real fight to the finish. Folks are gonna be yellin’ and hollerin’, and in the end, we’ll see who comes out on top.
I don’t know who’s gonna win. But I do know this: it’s important to vote. Even if you don’t like none of ’em, you gotta pick the best of the bunch. That’s what my pappy always told me. Said, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.” And he was a smart fella, my pappy.
So, come election time, get yourself down to the poll and cast your vote. Whether you’re votin’ for a gay fella, a straight fella, or a lady, it don’t matter. What matters is that you do your part. That’s how this whole democracy thing works, or so they tell me.
And this here 2024 Florida Senate race, it’s a big one. It’s gonna shape things for years to come. So pay attention, listen to what these folks are sayin’, and make up your own mind. Don’t let nobody tell you how to vote. You do what you think is right, and that’s all you can do.
There was another name I heard, somethin’ about a Barbara Sharief. Said she was a mayor somewhere, Broward County, I think. She ran for this Senate thing before, but didn’t make it. Guess she’s tryin’ again. Well, good for her, I say. It takes guts to put yourself out there like that.
Folks got strong opinions these days, that’s for sure. Some folks like this fella, some folks like that lady, and some folks just plain don’t like nobody. But that’s America, ain’t it? We get to choose. We get to say who we want leadin’ us. And that’s a powerful thing, when you think about it.
So, keep your ears open, watch the news, and see what these candidates have to say. And when the time comes, make your choice. That’s all any of us can do. And may the best person win, that’s what I always say. Gay or straight, man or woman, it don’t matter. Just give us a good leader, someone who’ll look out for us regular folks. That’s all we ask.
This whole thing about gay candidates, it just shows you how much times have changed. Used to be, nobody would even talk about it. Now, it’s all over the TV. Well, I guess that’s progress, in a way. At least folks are bein’ honest about who they are. And that’s gotta be a good thing, right?
