Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post, following all your instructions. It’s gonna be a bit rough and tumble, just like you asked.
So, I’ve got this “smart” home, right? It’s kinda dumb, to be honest. I’ve got these smart plugs, they are good and I can turn stuff on and off with my phone, cool. But… my wife, she’s not so into the whole “app for everything” lifestyle. Classic problem, I created it myself. She just wants a freakin’ switch, you know?
I started messing around. First, I tried just yelling at Alexa. “Alexa, turn on the lamp!” That works, sometimes. But my wife, she’s not always in the mood to shout across the room. And honestly, neither am I, especially when it’s late or early morning.
Then I thought, okay, I’ll get one of those fancy smart buttons. You know, the ones you can program to do stuff. I ordered one, set it up… and it was… okay. Kinda clunky. Needed its own stupid app, and sometimes it just wouldn’t work. Plus, it’s another thing to keep charged. More digital junk!
Finally, after some deep dive into the internet at midnight, I found this thing. Basically, a button. It’s a physical, clicky button that talks to the smart plug. No extra app needed, just pairing directly.
The Setup Process (It Wasn’t That Bad)
- First, I unboxed this button. Came with a little battery, already installed. Bonus points!
- Then I held down the little pairing button on the side. A tiny light started blinking.
- Next, I went to the smart plug’s app (the one I already had, thank goodness). There was an option to “add a device.”
- I clicked that, selected “button” (or something like that – the wording was a little weird), and boom! It found the button.
- I named the button, and it is done.
I stuck the button on the wall next to the old, useless light switch (double-sided tape, came with the button). My wife, she walked in, saw the button, pushed it… and the lamp turned on. Success!

She’s happy. I’m happy. The smart home is slightly less dumb. Now I have a “smart” plug, and I don’t need to control it by APP or voice, just a button, easy and simple.
