Okay, so, I decided to dive into this whole “Woman of the Year 2023” thing. You see it splashed all over the internet, right? Magazines, news sites, you name it. They all have their picks. I wanted to see what the fuss was about and maybe come up with my own list. Sounded fun, didn’t it?

First thing I did was hit up Google, of course. I typed in “Woman of the Year 2023” and bam! Tons of articles popped up. I started clicking through, reading about all these incredible women. Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming. There’s the soccer star, Aitana Bonmatí, who’s apparently amazing. She even won the Ballon d’Or, not once but twice! I wouldn’t know much about it as I don’t watch football match.
Then I stumbled upon this list from, Glamour, I think it was? They had Kate Middleton as the “future of the monarchy.” They had her tagged as “Catherine.” I guess that’s her official name. Anyway, the list had this Georgia Harrison as their “Activist of the Year” and someone named Hannah Waddingham as “Entertainer of the Year”.
I kept digging. USA TODAY had their own list. They highlighted this model, Quannah Chasinghorse, who’s doing cool stuff with Indigenous representation. And Roberta Cordano, she’s the president of some university for the deaf, Gallaudet or something. That’s pretty cool, too.
BBC had Michelle Obama on their list. No surprise there, she’s awesome. Other names were America Ferrera and Ariana DeBose, I think they’re actresses, right? They were part of this event, the 17th anniversary of something, I don’t remember the exact name but it was celebrating women, that much I understood.
My Own Little List
So, after going through all these lists, I thought, why not make my own? It’s not like I’m a magazine or anything, but it was a fun exercise. I put together a list of women who stood out to me, just regular people, not celebrities.

- My Mom: She’s the strongest person I know. Always there for me, no matter what. Definitely my Woman of the Year, every year.
- My Best Friend, Sarah: She started her own business this year, a little bakery. It’s been tough, but she’s killing it. So proud of her!
- My Neighbor, Mrs. Davis: She’s retired, but she volunteers at the local animal shelter every day. She has the biggest heart.
It was actually harder than I thought, narrowing it down. There are so many amazing women out there, doing big things and small things, making a difference in their own ways. This whole deep dive made me appreciate the women in my life even more.
In the end, I realized that “Woman of the Year” isn’t just about awards or magazine covers. It’s about recognizing the strength, resilience, and awesomeness of women everywhere. And that’s something we should celebrate every day, not just once a year.
