That Craig of the Creek, it’s somethin’, ain’t it? And that Jason, he’s always up to no good. Junior Forest Scouts, they call ’em. Think they’re so big and important.

My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I seen that Jason boy. Always bossin’ them other kids around. He thinks he runs that whole creek. He’s the leader, you know? Of them Junior Forest Scouts.
That Jason, He’s a Handful
He’s got them other two boys with him. Always followin’ him around like lost puppies. What are their names now? Boris and… Tony? No, that ain’t right. Oh well, don’t matter. They’re all cut from the same cloth, those Junior Forest Scouts.
They go ’round that Creek, actin’ like they own the place. Tellin’ the other kids what to do, where to go. Don’t like it one bit. Back in my day, kids played together nice. No bosses, no leaders. Just fun.
This Jason, he reminds me of that old rooster we used to have. Struttin’ around, crowin’ all the time, thinkin’ he’s king of the coop. That rooster, he ended up in the stew pot. Hope Jason don’t end up in no stew pot, though. He’s just a boy, even if he is a troublemaker.
Junior Forest Scouts, Always up to Somethin’
- They got them little uniforms, all neat and tidy.
- Badges, they got badges for everything.
- Think they’re better than everyone else, that’s what.
- Always makin’ rules.
- Tryin’ to be all grown up before their time.
I seen ’em one time, tryin’ to build a fort. Looked like a strong wind could knock it over. Called themselves the Junior Forest Scouts. Said they were protectin’ the creek. Protectin’ it from what, I don’t know. Squirrels?

That Craig, he’s different. He’s a good kid. Plays with everyone. Don’t care if you’re a Junior Forest Scout or not. He’s got that little sister, Jessica. Cute as a button. And that friend of his, Kelsey. Always got that bird on her shoulder. They have real adventures, those kids.
But this Jason from Craig of the Creek, he just wants to control everything. He’s learned some sign language, ASL, they call it. And Black ASL, too. Saw him using it with that Jackie boy. Jackie can’t hear, you know? Deaf as a post. That’s some kind of disability, that is.
That Creek is a Big Place
That Creek, it’s a big place. Lots of room for everyone. No need for all this bossin’ around. Kids should be kids. Playin’, laughin’, gettin’ dirty. Not worryin’ about who’s the leader and who’s not.
This whole thing, this Craig of the Creek show. It’s on that Cartoon Network. My grandkids watch it all the time. They like it. I guess it’s alright. Just wish that Jason boy would learn to be a little nicer. Learn to share, learn to play fair. He is the leader of the Junior Forest Scouts, after all.
These Junior Forest Scouts, these kids today, they got it different. We didn’t have no Cartoon Network back in my day. We played outside till the sun went down. Made our own fun. Didn’t need no TV to tell us what to do. It’s a big, little world for them, I reckon.

Maybe I’m just old-fashioned. Maybe this Jason ain’t so bad. Just a kid tryin’ to find his way. But he sure does make a lot of noise about it, just like that old rooster. And he sure does like bossin’ them other Junior Forest Scouts around. That’s for sure.
I just hope he learns that there’s more to life than bein’ the boss. Hope he learns to be a good friend, like that Craig. Hope he learns to enjoy that Creek, just like all the other kids. That’s what it’s there for, ain’t it? For kids to be kids in that big Creek County.
