Getting Started with Fight Do

Alright, so I dragged myself to the Fight Do class today. Wasn’t really feeling it at first, you know? Just one of those days. But I got my gear on, went down to the studio.

We started off with the warm-up. Lots of jogging in place, jumping jacks, high knees. Just trying to get loose. My shoulders felt kinda tight, probably from sitting at the computer too much. Did some arm circles, forward and back, trying to loosen them up. Felt a little better after a few minutes, blood started moving.

The Main Grind

Then the real work began. Instructor cranked the music up. First few rounds were shadow boxing. Jab, cross, hook, uppercut. Just getting the rhythm. Trying to keep my hands up, core tight. It sounds simple, but doing it over and over, trying to put some power into it, gets tiring fast.

We moved onto combinations. Jab-cross-hook, then maybe add a slip or a knee strike. My footwork felt clumsy today. Kept tripping over my own feet almost. The instructor was yelling, “Faster! Harder! Keep that guard up!” Easier said than done, man. My arms were starting to feel like lead weights.

There was this one combo involving kicks after punches. Punch, punch, front kick, then reset. Then punch, punch, roundhouse kick. Man, those roundhouse kicks always get me. Almost lost my balance a couple of times. Gotta really focus on twisting the hips, pivoting that standing foot. I could feel the sweat dripping down my face, stinging my eyes a bit. Looked around, everyone was breathing heavy, faces red. Kinda makes you feel like you’re not alone in the struggle, you know?

  • Jab-Cross-Hook
  • Jab-Cross-Uppercut-Cross
  • Punch-Punch-Front Kick
  • Punch-Punch-Roundhouse Kick

We did some ground work too near the end. Some sprawls, push-ups, mountain climbers. Just pure exhaustion by that point. Every muscle was screaming. Just focused on getting through each rep, one at a time.

Cooling Down and Heading Out

Finally, the cool down. Slowed things right down. Stretching out the arms, legs, back. Holding each stretch. Felt good, that release after pushing so hard. My whole body was buzzing, tired but kinda energized too, if that makes sense?

Packed my stuff up, walked out feeling totally spent. Muscles already starting to feel that familiar ache. Probably gonna be sore tomorrow, maybe the day after too. But hey, got it done. Showed up, put the work in. That’s what counts, right? Gotta keep pushing.
