Well now, folks, if ya livin’ in Milwaukee or anywhere ’round Wisconsin, y’all might be wonderin’ about that thing called abortion. It’s been on folks’ minds ever since the law changed a while back, back in 2023 to be exact. They say that since September 18th of that year, things got a bit clearer about what’s legal and what’s not, though I reckon some folks might still be scratchin’ their heads about it. Ya see, abortions in places like Madison, Milwaukee, and Sheboygan are legal up until 22 weeks of pregnancy. But don’t get too excited, ’cause it’s still a touchy subject after that Roe v. Wade was overturned back in 2022.
Now, if ya live in Milwaukee, there’s this place on Water Street where folks can go get one of them abortions. It’s called Planned Parenthood, and they been offerin’ them services again since that September day. Some folks might need to get medication abortion, and that’s somethin’ else they got at their Madison East Center too. But I gotta tell ya, not everywhere’s like that. Sheboygan, for example, don’t do the in-office stuff, they just offer the medication kind of abortion.
One thing folks should know is that there’s been a lot of talk about makin’ them limits shorter. They been puttin’ forth new bills like AB 975/SB 1011, where they wanna ban abortions after just 14 weeks. Now, right now, the law says you can’t get an abortion after 20 weeks, unless it’s a medical emergency. So, if you’re still in the early stages and thinkin’ about this decision, ya best get on the phone and call Planned Parenthood, or some other place, to see what they can do.
In fact, if ya want to book an appointment, all ya gotta do is dial up 844-493-1052. That’s the number for the Milwaukee Water Street Health Center, and they’ll help ya out, as long as you’re within the time frame. They don’t want no surprises for folks who need care. Now, I reckon, for those who don’t know, there’s still some folks who don’t like abortion, but the law’s been passed, so it’s sittin’ in a legal space for now.
Now, let’s go back a little. If ya look back in time, Wisconsin’s laws about abortion go all the way back to 1849, ‘bout the same time this state was first settlin’ itself. Back then, things were mighty different, and the laws weren’t too friendly toward women gettin’ abortions. It wasn’t until just recently that things started loosening up a bit, but still, it’s always a big ol’ debate when it comes to the law, politics, and personal choices.
So if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ an abortion in Milwaukee or anywhere in Wisconsin, I’d say make sure you know the rules. They might change again with all this new talk about restrictions and stuff. But as it stands, the Milwaukee Planned Parenthood, as well as a few other places, still offer help, but you gotta make sure you get there in time. And remember, if you need to know more, don’t be afraid to pick up that phone and get some advice. Ain’t no shame in askin’ questions, and better safe than sorry, as they say around here.
Don’t let anyone tell ya what to do with your body, but also, make sure you know your rights, so you’re not caught off guard. It’s a tough decision for anyone, but there are places out there to help ya, just like they helped folks back in the day when times were harder. So, be sure to stay informed and make the best choice for yourself, ’cause that’s all anyone can do.
