Okay, so yesterday I had to make a trip to the Planned Parenthood in San Jose, the one at 1691 The Alameda, zip code 95123. I’ve been meaning to get a check-up and some birth control, and I finally got around to it.

First off, I picked this specific location because it was sort of midway between where I live and where I work. Plus, I heard good things about their services from a friend. I’m not originally from San Jose, so finding healthcare places is still a bit of a learning curve for me.
I went online to their website to try to figure out what I needed to do. It had some information, but it wasn’t super clear on the process. It was hard for me to get the specific information that I needed. So, I just decided to call them up. The number was right there, (408) 287-7526, easy enough. The person who answered was really nice, and they explained everything pretty well. They told me to come in and that I could just walk in, no appointment needed, which was a relief!
When I got there, the place was pretty busy. I guess a lot of people had the same idea. I filled out some paperwork, the usual stuff – name, address, medical history, you know. It took a little while, but it was pretty standard.
- Check-in: Basic info, medical history forms.
- Wait: A bit of a wait, maybe 30 minutes or so?
- Consultation: Talked to a nurse about my needs.
After the wait, I got to see a nurse. She was super friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. We talked about why I was there, what kind of birth control I was interested in, and she explained all the options to me. She was very patient. She answered all my questions without making me feel rushed or dumb.
They did a quick exam, nothing too invasive, and then we discussed the next steps. Because I wanted to start birth control, they gave me a prescription right then and there, which was super convenient. I didn’t have to go somewhere else to get it filled. They had a pharmacy right there on-site! That was really a pleasant surprise.

I had not planned to have an Immunization on that day, but it turned out that I can also have it there. I was asked if I wanted to have a shot, and I thought, “Why not?”. So I got a shot at the same time. That was another convenience.
Overall Impression
Overall, I was really happy with my experience at the Planned Parenthood in San Jose. Everyone was friendly, professional, and helpful. They made the whole process pretty painless, and I walked out of there feeling like I was in good hands. Plus, getting everything done in one place was a huge time-saver. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for family planning services or just a general check-up in the San Jose area. They’ve got a good thing going there at 1691 The Alameda.
