Well, I’ll be. Seems like there’s some kinda group out there, fightin’ for them… whatchamacallits… L. G. B. T. Q. folks. Heard tell about ’em on the radio, some kinda “National Advocacy Group,” they say. Fancy words, ain’t they?
Now, I ain’t one for all them letters, makes my head spin faster than a dog chasin’ its tail. But from what I gather, these folks, they just wanna be treated fair and square, like anyone else. Can’t say I blame ’em. Live and let live, that’s what I always say.
This group, they’re doin’ somethin’ ’bout it. Not just sittin’ around complainin’, mind you. They’re out there, tryin’ to make things better. Sounds like they’re fightin’ for laws and stuff, makin’ sure them L. G. B. T. Q. folks got the same rights as the rest of us. Good on ’em, I say.
Heard tell they even put out a report, somethin’ called “L. G. B. T. Q. Americans Under Attack.” Sounds scary, don’t it? Says there’s a bunch of new laws, and it’s all them Republicans’ fault. Well, I don’t know nothin’ ’bout politics, but sounds like these folks are havin’ a tough time.
- They’re fightin’ for freedom, whatever that means in this day and age.
- They’re lookin’ for justice, like in them old cowboy movies.
- And they’re doin’ it for all sorts of folks: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer… Landsakes, that’s a mouthful!
And wouldn’t you know it, they even got this group’s name in one of them crossword puzzles. Yep, the New York Times, no less. Someone was tellin’ me about it, “National advocacy group for L. G. B. T. Q. issues,” they called it. Big words for a simple puzzle, if you ask me. But hey, guess it gets the word out, right? Folks see it in the paper, maybe they start thinkin’ a little different.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ I understand it all. This world’s changin’ faster than a summer storm. But one thing I do know is, treatin’ folks right, that’s just common sense. Don’t matter who they love or how they identify, they’re still people, just like you and me. And if this group’s fightin’ for that, well, then I reckon they’re doin’ somethin’ good.
This ain’t just some city thing neither. Heard tell they’re workin’ all over the country, tryin’ to make things better for folks everywhere. That’s a big job, I tell ya. But seems like they’re up for it. They’re stubborn, like a mule in springtime.
It ain’t easy, I bet. There’s always gonna be folks who don’t understand, folks who are scared of what’s different. But these folks, they keep on fightin’. And that’s somethin’ to admire, no matter what you think about all them letters.
So, next time you hear about this “National Advocacy Group,” or whatever they call it, just remember, they’re just tryin’ to make the world a little bit fairer, a little bit kinder. And ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about it. Just an old woman’s thoughts, not worth much, I reckon. But maybe, just maybe, it’ll make you think a little bit. And that’s more then enough for one day, goodness gracious.
