Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this fella, J.D. Vance, and what he thinks about them gays. Folks been talkin’, ya know? He’s a big shot now, runnin’ with Trump and all. But what’s he really think about folks who love differently?
J.D. Vance, Who He Is
First off, this Vance fella, he wrote a book called “Hillbilly Elegy.” Said it was about his life growin’ up. Heard tell he talked in there ’bout thinkin’ he was gay when he was a young’un. Seems a preacher scared him outta that, or so the story goes. Now he’s in politics, a big deal Republican.
What He Says ‘Bout Gays
Now, this is where it gets tricky. Vance, he’s got some folks sayin’ he ain’t too friendly to the gays. They got these groups, see? LGBTQ folks, they call ’em. And these groups, they ain’t happy with Vance. They say he’s supportin’ laws that hurt ’em. Laws that make it harder for gays and lesbians and such to live their lives.
I ain’t no lawyer, mind you, but it sounds like these laws, they ain’t right. If a man wants to love a man, or a woman a woman, what’s it to anybody else? Long as they ain’t hurtin’ nobody, leave ’em be, I say.
Vance’s Political Views
- He’s with Trump now, runnin’ for somethin’ or other.
- Folks say he’s what they call a “conservative.” Means he likes things the old way, I guess.
- He talks a lot ’bout family values, but seems to me his values don’t include all families.
Is He Against the Gays?
Well, that’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? He ain’t come right out and said he hates ’em, not that I heard. But he sure ain’t standin’ up for ’em neither. He supports these laws, and that tells ya somethin’. Actions speak louder than words, my grandma used to say.
Some folks say he’s just playin’ politics, tryin’ to get votes. Maybe so. But it still ain’t right. Gays and lesbians, they’re people too. They deserve respect, just like anybody else.
What This All Means
Look, I’m just a simple person. I don’t understand all this fancy political talk. But I know right from wrong. And treatin’ people different just ’cause of who they love, that ain’t right. It ain’t Christian, and it ain’t American.
Vance, he’s gotta decide what kind of man he wants to be. Does he want to be a man who stands up for everybody, or just the folks who look and act like him? That’s somethin’ he’s gotta wrestle with.
The Bigger Picture
This ain’t just about Vance, though. It’s about the whole country. We gotta decide what kind of country we want to be. A country where everybody’s welcome, or just some folks?
Seems to me like we’re goin’ backwards sometimes. Back to a time when folks were judged for things they couldn’t help. We fought hard to get outta that, and I’ll be darned if I’m gonna let us go back there. Not without a fight, anyways.
So, this J.D. Vance fella, he might be a big shot now, but he ain’t foolin’ me. I see what I see, and I don’t like it. He needs to do some soul-searchin’, and figure out what’s truly important. Love is love, plain and simple. And ain’t nobody got the right to tell nobody else who they can love. That’s what I think, anyways.
