Alright, so, marriage, right? It’s a rollercoaster, no doubt. We hit a bit of a rough patch a while back, me and the missus. Things got, well, kinda stale. You know, like that feeling when you’re just going through the motions? Not great, not terrible, just…blah. So, I decided, “No more blah!” We gotta bring back that spark, that sizzle, whatever you wanna call it. Here’s how I went about it.
First things first: Talk it out
Yeah, I know, super obvious, right? But seriously, we had to sit down and really talk. Not just the usual “How was your day?” chit-chat. We got real. I started by telling her how I was feeling, that I missed the connection we used to have. And she opened up too. Turns out, we were both feeling the same way. Just getting it all out there, that was a huge first step.
Operation: Date Night
Next up, I decided we needed some dedicated “us” time. We’re both busy, work, kids, life, you know the drill. So I booked a babysitter (grandma, lifesaver!) and planned a proper date night. Nothing fancy, just a nice dinner at our favorite Italian place. We dressed up a bit, made an effort. And guess what? It was like old times. We talked, we laughed, we actually listened to each other. Magic!
Little things, big impact
-
I started leaving her little notes. Just silly stuff, “You’re the best,” or “Thinking of you,” tucked into her bag or on the bathroom mirror.
-
I took over some chores she usually does. Like, I started doing the dishes every night, no questions asked.
-
We started having coffee together every morning, just 15 minutes, before the chaos of the day begins.
Surprise, surprise!
Okay, so I’m not the most spontaneous guy, but I tried to shake things up a bit. One weekend, I surprised her with a little getaway. Just a two-hour drive to a cute little town, we walked around, explored some shops, had a picnic. It wasn’t about the place, it was about doing something different, together.
Keep it going
This isn’t a one-and-done deal. Bringing back the spark, it’s an ongoing thing. We still have our date nights, even if it’s just staying in and watching a movie, no phones allowed. I try to keep up with the little things, and she does too. We’re making an effort, every day.
It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. That spark? It’s definitely back. And you know what? It’s even brighter than before. It just took a little work, a little effort, and a whole lot of love to get here.
