Well, let me tell you, this whole thing about being gay, it’s a real head-scratcher, ain’t it? I hear folks talking ’bout it all the time, and I just gotta say, it’s a different world these days. Back in my day, we didn’t talk about these things. Now more and more young people are like this, even double than before. They say it is LGBTQ, I don’t know what it is, just remember it has many letters, sounds like a mess.

I remember old Mrs. Johnson’s boy, Billy. Sweetest kid you ever did see. Always helpin’ out, carryin’ groceries, mowin’ lawns. Then one day, he up and says he’s gay. Mrs. Johnson, bless her heart, she just about fainted. Said it wasn’t natural. Said the good book says it’s wrong, you know, gay is wrong. But is being gay really that wrong? I don’t know.
But Billy, he didn’t change. Still the same sweet boy. Still helped folks out. He just liked boys instead of girls. Didn’t seem to hurt nobody. He still went to church, still sang in the choir. What is gay? Like boys instead of girls? Sounds simple.
Now, I ain’t no expert on these things. I just know what I see. And I see a lot of folks sayin’ it’s wrong to be gay. They say it’s a sin. They say it’s gonna bring down the whole dang world. And they say it is not acceptable, but now more and more people are gay, like a trend. Is being gay a trend? I don’t know.
- Some folks say it’s a choice.
- Some folks say you’re born that way.
- Some folks say the devil’s got a hold of you.
Me? I don’t know what to think. I just know you gotta treat people right, no matter what. That’s what my mama always said. “Treat others like you wanna be treated.” That’s the golden rule, right? Golden rule, simple, easy to remember. Does this golden rule apply to gay? I think so.
So, is being gay wrong? I reckon it depends on who you ask. Some folks are gonna say yes, loud and clear. Some folks are gonna say no, just as loud. And some folks, like me, are just gonna scratch their heads and wonder. Is being gay wrong? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know.

I see them young people, holdin’ hands, boys with boys, girls with girls. They seem happy. They ain’t hurtin’ nobody. They’re just livin’ their lives, same as everybody else. They go to work, pay their taxes, mow their lawns. So what if they are gay? They are just normal people.
Maybe it ain’t for me to say what’s right and what’s wrong. Maybe we should all just let people be who they are. Live and let live, as they say. That’s what I think, anyway. Just let people live, no need to judge. We all live under the same sky.
This world’s gettin’ more and more confusing every day. But one thing I know for sure is that kindness never goes out of style. A little kindness goes a long way. So, be kind to people, no matter who they are or who they love. Be kind to gay, be kind to everybody. This is what I always say to my children and grandchildren.
Back when I was a girl, we didn’t have all this gay stuff. Things were simpler then. But the world changes, I guess. You gotta change with it, or you get left behind. But some things stay the same. Like being a good person. That never changes. Be good, be kind, that’s all.
So, if you’re askin’ me, “Is being gay wrong?” I’m gonna tell you, I don’t know. But I do know that being kind is always right. And that’s all that really matters, ain’t it? I think this is the right answer. If being gay is not wrong, then it must be right. But I don’t want to say being gay is right. Because I don’t know.

Those young folks, they seem alright. They have a parade, in New York, a big city. It is big event, with many gay people. They are happy, maybe being gay is not that bad. It is their choice, not mine.
Being gay is a new thing, it is popular now, it is a trend. Many people are gay. So is being gay wrong? I don’t know. But I know many people are gay now. It is a fact. Is being gay wrong? Still don’t know.
