Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to make this cool album cover for my best friend’s song, right? I think it is gonna be awesome, and I wanted to share how I went about doing it.

First things first, I started by brainstorming ideas. I sat down with a pen and paper – yeah, old school, I know – and just jotted down everything that came to mind when I thought about the song and my friend. I thought about the vibe of the music, the lyrics, and what kind of images would capture its essence. There were a lot of doodles, crossed-out words, and some coffee stains, but eventually, some solid ideas started to take shape.
Next, I started sketching. I’m no Picasso, but I can draw a decent stick figure. I took my favorite concepts from the brainstorming session and tried to put them on paper. It was rough, to say the least. I mean, getting the right layout and balance was tough, and I used my eraser more than my pencil. I was just trying to capture that emotion, you know?
- I drew a few different versions, playing with the placement of elements, fonts, and colors. Some sketches were more literal interpretations of the song’s theme, while others were a bit more abstract. It was a whole mess of lines and shapes.
Digital Time
After I had a few sketches I was kinda happy with, I moved to the computer. I used some design software that I messed around with before to bring my sketches to life. I scanned my favorite sketches and started recreating them digitally. This part took forever. I mean, choosing the right font alone took me hours. And don’t even get me started on the color palette. I wanted something that would really pop but also fit the mood of the song.
I spent days, maybe even weeks, just tweaking things. I was always moving elements around, changing colors, resizing fonts – you name it, I did it. At one point, I had like 20 different versions saved, which made it a nightmare to choose the final one. I was just staring at the screen, going back and forth between them.
Finally, after a lot of back-and-forth, I managed to narrow it down to one design that I felt really captured the spirit of the song. It was a mix of the visual elements from my sketches and the vibrant colors I had picked out in the digital phase. And, I showed it to some friends to get their opinions, and they all loved it, thankfully.

I was so pumped when I finally showed it to my best friend. She absolutely loved it! Seeing her reaction made all those hours of work totally worth it. Plus, her friends thought it was pretty cool too, which was a nice bonus.
So yeah, that’s how I created the album cover. It was a lot of trial and error, a ton of revisions, and a bit of luck, but in the end, I came up with something I’m really proud of. It’s not just an album cover; it’s like a piece of art that means something to both of us.
I am so happy with the result of my work and proud of myself.
I am sure I will do something like this again.
Thanks for reading this, and I hope you enjoyed my little journey. Catch you later!
