Okay, let me walk you through what month four of my pregnancy was actually like. It felt like a bit of a shift, you know?

So, coming out of the first three months, which honestly kinda sucked with all the tiredness and feeling sick, month four felt like turning a corner. The first thing I noticed was I wasn’t quite as exhausted. Like, I could actually make it through a workday without needing a nap under my desk. Didn’t feel like running a marathon or anything, but definitely had more pep in my step than before. The nausea also backed off, thank goodness. It wasn’t totally gone, some smells still got me, but it wasn’t an all-day affair anymore.

The Bump Situation

This was the big one for month four. My belly started to actually pop out. Before, it was kinda ambiguous, like maybe I just had a big lunch. But now? Nope, definitely starting to look pregnant. It was exciting but also weird. My regular pants officially became instruments of torture. The button just wouldn’t close, no matter how much I sucked it in. So, the practice of finding clothes that fit began.

  • I dug out any leggings I owned. They became my best friends.
  • I actually went and bought a pair of maternity jeans. Felt like a real milestone, trying those things on in the store dressing room. Super comfy, though!
  • Shirts started fitting differently too. Had to favour looser tops.

It was this constant adjustment, getting used to this new shape taking form. Kinda cool, kinda awkward sometimes.

Feeling Things? Maybe?

Around this time, I started feeling these little… flutters. Way down low in my belly. It wasn’t like kicks yet, more like a little bubble popping or a tiny goldfish swimming around in there. It was so faint at first, I wasn’t even sure if it was the baby or just gas, you know? My doctor said it was probably the baby, especially since it’s my first time, you feel it later sometimes. It was pretty wild, though, that first hint that there’s really someone moving around in there.

Doctor Visits and Food Stuff

Had another check-up. Everything was chugging along fine. Got to hear the heartbeat again on the doppler machine. That sound is just the best, seriously. Strong and fast. It’s reassuring, makes it all feel very real.

Food was still a bit weird. My appetite was definitely bigger than in the first trimester, but I still had strange aversions. Couldn’t stand the smell of coffee brewing some mornings, which used to be my favourite smell! Cravings weren’t too crazy, but I definitely wanted more salty things and lots of fruit. Eating became less about survival (like when I felt sick) and more about actually being hungry, which was nice.

Sharing the News More

Since I was starting to show and feeling better, this was the month we told more people, like extended family and coworkers. It was nice to share the excitement. Most people were really happy for us. You get all the usual questions, of course, but it felt good to have it out in the open more.

So yeah, month four was really about transitioning. Feeling more energetic, looking undeniably pregnant, starting to maybe feel the baby move, and sharing the news more widely. It felt like settling into the pregnancy a bit more, leaving the rough patch behind and starting to actually enjoy the process. It was a good month, felt like things were really happening.
