Alright, let’s talk about famous black lesbians. I got curious about this the other day and decided to do a deep dive. I mean, we celebrate Black History Month, and I realized I didn’t know enough about the amazing contributions of black lesbian women throughout history.
So, I started where anyone would – the internet. I typed in “famous black lesbians” and started scrolling through the results. It was a mix of names I recognized and a whole bunch I’d never heard of. I felt a little ashamed, to be honest. Here I am, thinking I’m all woke, and there’s a whole world of history I’m clueless about.
I started to make a list, to make it organized. You know, just names and a little blurb about what they did. My list got long, really long. I found out about writers, activists, comedians, you name it. And it wasn’t just people from back in the day, but also folks who are killing it right now.
- Writers: There were so many great writers. I knew some like Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison. They were the most famous ones.
- Activists: I learned about some people who fought for civil rights way back in the 1960s. It was tough times back then.
- Modern Heroes: Then there are women today making a difference in politics and other important areas. I was impressed by their courage and achievements.
I spent hours going down this rabbit hole, reading articles, watching videos, the whole nine yards. It was truly inspiring. These women faced double discrimination, being both black and lesbian, and they still managed to achieve incredible things. They paved the way for others and made the world a better place.
This whole experience was a real eye-opener for me. It reminded me that history is way more complex and diverse than what we learn in school. There are so many stories out there that deserve to be told, and I’m glad I took the time to learn about some of them.
I’m going to keep learning about this because it’s important to remember and honor these women. They were brave, talented, and they made a real difference. And who knows, maybe I’ll discover more amazing stories along the way.
