Okay, so I was messing around with this idea of making emojis from text, you know, like those “crush” memes where they smash together different emojis? I thought it’d be fun to try and build something like that myself.
First, I started by just playing around. I would think “what if I combined a heart and…fire?” The idea, I guess, was a burning love or something along those lines.
The Process
- Brainstorming: I literally just sat there with a piece of paper and wrote down a bunch of emojis that I thought might be cool to combine. Hearts, flames, faces, objects, you name it.
- Finding the Emojis: Then I hunted down the actual emoji characters. It was copy and paste, and search for the right name, that sort of thing.
- Putting it Together: This was the tricky part. I didn’t want to just put two emojis next to each other, I wanted them to kind of overlap, look like they were mashed together.
I messed with the sequence, seeing which sequence looks best.
The first few attempts looked…weird. Just two emojis side-by-side. Not very “crushed” looking, if you get me.
But then,I kept trying, trying, trying.
And, after a whole bunch of trial and error, it actually start to come together.
It’s not perfect, it’s no professional design, but it was a fun little experiment. And hey, now I know a little bit more about how emojis are put together and how I can play with them.
