Okay, so today I decided to get a head start on Mother’s Day and make some personalized birthday cards for Mom. I’ve always felt that handmade gifts carry more weight, you know? Plus, it’s a fun little project.

First, I gathered my supplies. This included:
- Some colorful cardstock paper I had lying around.
- A pack of glitter pens I bought on a whim last month.
- Scissors (the fancy kind with the patterned edges, of course).
- Glue – gotta have glue!
- Some old magazines for potential cut-out decorations.
- Ribbon, some buttons from an old shirt, and washi tape.
Getting Started
I started by folding the cardstock into the classic card shape. I made a few different sizes, just to see what would look best. One was a standard rectangular shape, and another I tried to make a bit more square.
Next up was the fun part: decorating! I used the glitter pens to write “Happy Birthday, Mom!” on the front of the first card. I’m no calligrapher, but I tried my best to make it look fancy. Then I added some swirly designs around the edges, just freehanding it. It looks a bit, uh, “rustic,” but I think it adds charm.
For the second card, I decided to try a collage approach. I flipped through the magazines and found some pretty flower pictures. I carefully cut them out and arranged them on the card front, playing around with the layout until I was happy. I glued them down, trying not to use too much so the paper wouldn’t wrinkle. The magazines add a kind of nice, vintage feel.
With glue, I add some buttons and ribbon to make card more vivid, I think it is a cool design.

The Inside Touch
Of course, you can’t forget the inside! I kept it simple and wrote a heartfelt message to my mom. I think the personal touch inside is just as important as the fancy decorations on the outside. No fancy glitter pens here, just a regular pen and my honest feelings.
Finally, I made a last little adjustment, adding small border with washi tape. And that made all the difference!
All in all, I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out! They’re not perfect, but they’re made with love, and that’s what counts, right? Hopefully, Mom will appreciate the effort. I might even make a few more, just for practice. It was a really relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
