Okay, so I realized I was running low on my birth control pills. Like, really low. The kind of low where you start counting the days and hoping you didn’t mess up the math.
Getting the Ball Rolling
First thing I did was check the Planned Parenthood app on my phone. I usually try to use the app first because, honestly, talking on the phone isn’t my favorite thing. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it’s a bit clunky. This time, I logged in, went to the appointments or prescriptions section – can’t remember exactly what it’s called. I was looking for a simple “refill” button.
I poked around for a bit. Found my prescription listed, but the refill option wasn’t super obvious right away. Maybe my prescription had technically expired since my last check-in? Not sure. So, plan B.
Making the Call
I decided to just call my local Planned Parenthood clinic. Found the number easily enough. Had to go through the usual phone tree stuff, pressing numbers for appointments or prescription refills. Eventually got connected to someone.
The person on the phone was nice. I told them I needed a birth control refill. They asked for my name and date of birth to pull up my file. This part was quick. They confirmed which birth control I was on.
They checked my records and saw I was due for a quick check-in anyway. It wasn’t a full exam, more like a telehealth chat just to make sure everything was still okay with the current prescription. We scheduled that telehealth call for later in the week.

- Had my telehealth call.
- Answered some basic health questions.
- Confirmed I still wanted the same prescription.
The nurse practitioner approved the refill after our chat. Super straightforward. She asked which pharmacy I wanted it sent to. I just used the same local pharmacy I always go to.
Picking It Up
They told me it would be ready in about 24-48 hours. I gave it two days just to be safe, then headed over to the pharmacy. Walked up to the counter, gave them my name and birthdate again. They had it ready to go. Had to pay my usual copay, which wasn’t too bad.
And that was it. Got my three-month supply. Stress over. Seriously, even though I had to make a call and do the telehealth thing, it wasn’t a huge hassle. Planned Parenthood got it sorted out pretty efficiently. Glad I didn’t wait until the very last pill.
