Okay, so the other day, I really felt it. Summer’s kinda packing its bags, you know? The air’s got that little crisp thing starting in the evenings. It got me thinking I should pull together some tunes to sort of… see it off properly. A little soundtrack for the end of the season.

My Process Kinda Thing
First thing I did was just sit down with my phone, opened up my usual music app. Didn’t really have a plan, just started scrolling through stuff I listened to over the last few months. My thumbs were doing the work, really. Just tapping on anything that felt like ‘summer’ but maybe a bit… wistful? Is that the word? Yeah, something like that.
I started just adding songs to a new playlist. Didn’t think too hard at first. If it vaguely reminded me of June, July, or August, in it went. Ended up with a real mess, way too long. Had some upbeat stuff, some lazy afternoon tracks, even a couple of really old songs that just popped into my head from summers way back when.
Then came the trimming part. This took longer. I actually put on my headphones and listened to the first thirty seconds or so of each track on the massive list I’d made. I asked myself, does this really fit the ‘goodbye summer’ vibe? Some songs were just pure sunshine, too happy, you know? They felt more like June. So, chop. Those got cut. Others were just… okay, but didn’t hit right. Chop again.
I tried to get a mix. Needed some songs that still had that warm feel, but maybe with slower tempos or thoughtful lyrics. Stuff you’d listen to on a drive as the sun sets earlier. I even pulled in a few tracks that weren’t strictly ‘summer’ songs but had the right mood. It was more about the feeling than the theme, I guess.
Putting it Together
Once I had a shorter list, maybe about fifteen songs, I started shuffling them around. Tried to get a decent flow. Didn’t want anything too jarring. Kinda start mellow, build up a tiny bit, then ease back down. Like the season itself, slowing down.

Here’s a rough idea of what made the final cut, feeling-wise:
- A few tunes with that late-afternoon golden light vibe.
- Something acoustic and simple.
- Tracks that reminded me of specific good days this summer.
- One or two slightly sadder ones, but more nostalgic than depressing.
So yeah, that was my little project. Spent maybe an hour or so fiddling with it. The final playlist feels pretty good. It’s personal, obviously, just tracks that hit that specific end-of-summer note for me. It’s nice having it ready for these next few weeks as we slide into autumn. Just press play and remember the warm bits while getting ready for the cosy ones.
