Okay, so I gotta talk about this thing called the gotham app I messed around with recently.

Getting Started
First off, I heard about it from a buddy, said it was supposed to be some kind of city helper thing, you know? Sounded kinda interesting, maybe a bit edgy with that name. Reminded me of that other city, Metropolis, like the name alone tells you it’s trying hard. Anyway, I went and found it on the app store. Download wasn’t too bad, pretty standard stuff.
Opened it up. The look? Dark theme, obviously. Lots of sharp corners on the buttons, felt a bit like it was trying to be serious, maybe a little too serious for just reporting a flickering streetlight, which is what I wanted to try it out on.
Trying it Out
So, there’s this big ‘Report Issue’ button right in the middle. Hard to miss. I tapped that. It asked for the type of issue. The list was kinda weird.
- Broken Streetlight
- Pothole
- Suspicious Activity
- General Gloom
Seriously? General Gloom? Felt a bit on the nose, but okay, maybe they’re just having fun with the theme. I picked ‘Broken Streetlight’.
Next, it wanted location. It tried using my phone’s GPS, which worked alright, pinned it close enough. Then it asked for a photo. Makes sense. Snapped a pic of the annoying flickering light down the street. Then there was a box for ‘Additional Details’. I just typed something simple like, “Streetlight on corner of Main and Elm keeps flickering. Annoying.”

Hit submit. Got a little animation, like a bat symbol flashed real quick or something. Then a message popped up: “Report Received. We’re watching.” Kinda cryptic, not gonna lie. Didn’t give me a tracking number or anything like you get with the official city reporting apps.
So What Happened?
Well, here’s the thing. I submitted that report maybe… three days ago? Checked the app again today. There’s no section to see my reports. No updates. Nothing. And the streetlight? Still flickering away like it’s having a tiny disco party every night.
So, did the app actually do anything? Hard to say. Felt more like shouting into the void, but a void with a cool dark theme, I guess. It didn’t feel very practical. Like, it captures the vibe of a gritty city needing help, but maybe forgot the actual ‘helping’ part.
Final Thoughts
Look, the gotham app is an interesting idea. The interface has a certain style, definitely leans into its name. But based on my little test run? It felt kinda useless. It was easy enough to send a report, but there was zero feedback after that. No confirmation it went to the right people, no tracking, no nothing. And the problem I reported is still there. Maybe it works better in other places, or maybe it’s just for show. For now, I’ll probably stick to the regular, boring city website for reporting stuff.
