So, I decided to make this flower smiley face thing the other day. Just felt like it, you know? Needed something to do with my hands besides tapping on a keyboard or staring at a screen. Didn’t really have a grand plan, just started grabbing stuff.

First, I looked for some paper. Found some old construction paper, a bit faded, but whatever. Yellow seemed right for the smiley part. Then I needed stuff for the petals. Had some pink and orange paper scraps lying around. Good enough.
Getting Started
I grabbed a black marker, a thick one. Tried drawing a circle for the face. Sounds easy, right? Well, my first try looked more like a potato. Seriously wobbly. Took a few tries on scrap paper until I got one that was mostly round. Cut that sucker out with some scissors I found in the kitchen drawer – they weren’t craft scissors, so the edge was a bit rough.
Then, the face itself. Drew two simple dots for eyes. Didn’t want anything fancy. For the smile, just a big curve. Almost messed that up, the marker bled a little, but I managed to keep it contained. It looked okay, cheerful enough I guess.
Making the Petals
Now for the flower part. The petals. I just started cutting petal shapes out of the pink and orange paper. Didn’t measure anything. Some came out big, some small, some kinda pointy, some round. They definitely didn’t match perfectly. Who cares, right? It’s not like I was entering this into a competition.
- Cut out maybe 5 pink petals.
- Cut out maybe 5 orange petals.
- Just eyeballed the shapes.
Putting It Together
Time to stick it all together. Found some glue stick, the kind kids use. Started gluing the petals to the back of the yellow face circle. I tried alternating colors, pink, orange, pink, orange. Some overlapped weirdly. The glue wasn’t super strong, had to press them down for a bit. Got some glue on my fingers, naturally.

It looked a bit flat. So, I gently bent the petals forward a little, tried to give it some dimension. Some ripped slightly because the paper was old. Oh well.
And that was pretty much it. Held it up. A slightly lopsided, definitely handmade-looking flower smiley face. The marker smudge was still there if you looked close. The petals weren’t symmetrical. But you know what? It looked happy. Made me chuckle a bit.
So yeah, that’s how I made it. No magic involved. Just some paper, a marker, glue, and a bit of messing around. It’s stuck on my fridge now. Looks kinda goofy next to the grocery list, but it brightens things up a tiny bit.
