So, I was scrolling through my social media feeds the other day, just minding my own business, when I stumbled upon this wild world of RuPaul’s Drag Race. I mean, I’d heard of it, of course, who hasn’t? But I never really got it, you know?

But then something just clicked, it was like a light bulb or a disco ball went off in my head. I started watching clips, reading articles, I watched some episodes on TV, and before I knew it, I was hooked! That charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent just blew me away.
First, I wanted to try and remember all of RuPaul’s famous quotes. I found one that really resonated with me. You’ve probably heard it before: “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” I mean, right? That’s some real talk right there. It just hit me hard, you know? I realized I gotta work on my own self-love game.
- So, I started doing these little things, I started being nicer to myself.
- I stopped with the negative self-talk, you know, like when you look in the mirror and all you see are flaws.
- Now, I try to focus on the good stuff, like my killer smile or my awesome sense of humor.
- I even started a gratitude journal, It’s kinda cheesy, but it helps.
Then there’s this other phrase RuPaul uses, “She done already done had herses.” I had no idea what it meant at first, but apparently, he picked it up from a fast-food worker who was all worked up about her break. I just thought it was funny and started saying it all the time. It’s a conversation starter, I’ll tell you that much!
I also did some digging into RuPaul’s past, the guy’s a legend! Did you know that back in the ’90s, he was the first drag queen to be the face of M.A.C. and VIVA Glam? Like, that’s huge! It’s amazing to see how far he’s come and how much he’s done for the LGBTQ+ community.
And of course, I had to binge-watch RuPaul’s Drag Race. I just finished season 16, and the first elimination? Let’s just say it was a half improv, and it was wild. The queens this season are seriously talented, but also very dramatic, which makes for some good TV, I guess.

The more I watched, the more I realized that drag is so much more than just dressing up. It’s an art form, it’s a performance, it’s a way to express yourself and challenge societal norms. It’s about being bold, being creative, and being unapologetically you.
Putting It All Together
So I decided, you know what? I’m gonna try to incorporate some of this RuPaul magic into my own life. Not that I’m gonna start doing drag, although I have mad respect for those who do. But I’m gonna try to be more confident, more self-loving, and more expressive.
I started with my wardrobe. I used to be all about blending in, wearing boring colors and safe styles. But now, I’m like, “Screw that!” I’m experimenting with bright colors, fun patterns, and clothes that actually make me feel good. And you know what? It’s working! I feel more confident and people are actually noticing.
I’m also trying to be more confident in my everyday life. I’m speaking up more, I’m sharing my opinions, and I’m not afraid to be myself, even if it means standing out a little. It’s scary, I’m not gonna lie, but it’s also liberating.
This whole RuPaul deep dive has been a real eye-opener for me. It’s taught me so much about self-love, acceptance, and the power of being true to yourself. It’s like RuPaul says, “We’re all born naked and the rest is drag.” So why not have some fun with it, right?

I’m still figuring things out, but I’m excited to see where this journey takes me. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even sashay away like a pro. But for now, I’m just gonna keep working on loving myself, and hopefully, that love will spread to others too. As Ru always says, can I get an amen up in here?
