Getting Started with the Candles
Okay, so tonight was about trying out those new candles I picked up. Always a bit of a gamble, you know? You never quite know what you’re getting ’til you light ’em up. First thing first, got the space ready. Laid down some old sheets on the floor. Learned my lesson there – wax gets everywhere if you’re not careful, and scraping it off wood? Forget it.

We decided on the black ones this time. Looked cool, but I had a feeling they might run hot. Always gotta do a test drop. On my own forearm, obviously. Yep, definitely hotter than the paraffin ones I usually use. Had to remember that. Keep the flame higher, drip slower.
Feeling it Out
Started on the upper back. Nice big canvas, less sensitive than other spots. Just a few drops to begin with. Watched how the wax spread, how quickly it cooled. It behaved differently than the softer waxes. Formed little beads rather than pooling wide. Interesting.
The heat was noticeable, definitely a sharper sensation. Not bad, just… more intense. You gotta pay attention to the reaction, make sure it’s the good kind of intense, not the ‘ouch, stop!’ kind. Communication is key, always.
- The black wax: hotter, needed more distance.
- Pooling: Less spread, more beading.
- Sensation: Sharper heat, more immediate.
Getting into the Flow
Moved onto the shoulders and down the spine a bit. Tried making some basic lines, letting the wax trail. It’s kind of mesmerizing, watching the liquid turn solid on the skin. The contrast between the hot wax and the cooling air is a big part of it, I think.

Had one candle start dripping way too fast halfway through. Like a mini-waterfall. Had to blow it out quick and switch to a fresh one. You get duds sometimes. Annoying, breaks the mood a bit, but you just roll with it.
Clean Up Time
Once everything cooled down properly, the peeling began. This wax came off pretty clean, actually. Mostly in big pieces, which was nice. Less picking at tiny flakes. Still needed a bit of oil afterwards to get the skin feeling normal again, remove that waxy feeling.
Overall? Not bad. The black candles were powerful, maybe not for beginners, but definitely effective. Need to respect the heat, though. Another session logged, another bit learned. That’s how it goes.
