Okay, so, like, a few weeks back I started gettin’ this crazy itch down there. Yeah, I’m talkin’ ’bout my vagina. Comezon vaginal, as my abuela would say. It was drivin’ me nuts!

First thing I did? Googled it, duh! Big mistake. WebMD freaked me out with all sorts of possibilities, from yeast infections to, like, the plague. I tried to chill, though. I remembered my friend Maria had something similar last year.
So, I started with the basics. I switched to unscented soap. I was using some fruity-smelling body wash, figured that might be irritating things. Then, cotton undies only, all the time. I ditched the thongs and the tight leggings for a bit. Gotta let the girls breathe, ya know?
Next, I tried over-the-counter yeast infection cream. The one with the applicator. Followed the instructions to the letter. Twice a day for a week. Honestly? Didn’t do squat. The itching was still there, maybe even worse some days.
I started gettin’ worried. I mean, I’ve had yeast infections before, and the cream always worked. This was different. The itch was… deeper, somehow. And there was a little bit of burning when I peed. Great.
So, I sucked it up and booked an appointment with my gynecologist. Hate going, but what else could I do? Waited like a week for the appointment, which felt like forever with the itching. Torture, I tell ya!

The doctor did the whole exam, asked me a bunch of questions about my symptoms, and did a swab. Said she’d call me with the results. More waiting! Ugh.
A few days later, the phone rang. Turns out, it wasn’t a yeast infection at all. It was bacterial vaginosis, or BV. Apparently, the pH balance down there got messed up. She prescribed me some antibiotics, metronidazole. Pills to take twice a day for seven days.
Started takin’ the pills right away. The first couple of days, I didn’t notice much of a difference. Then, around day three, the itching started to subside. Hallelujah! By day five, it was almost completely gone. I finished the whole course of antibiotics, even though I was feeling better. Gotta kill all those bad bacteria, right?
So, the moral of the story is: Don’t self-diagnose based on Google. And if the over-the-counter stuff doesn’t work, just go to the doctor! BV is way more common than I thought, and it’s easily treatable.
What I learned:

- Unscented soap is definitely the way to go.
- Cotton undies are your friend.
- Sometimes, you just gotta see a doctor.
Now, everything’s back to normal. No more itching! I’m back to my regular routine, but I’m definitely being more careful about what I use down there. Lesson learned!
