Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this whole “Dancing with the Stars” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I mean, who would have thought, right? A transgender person like me, grooving on national TV. I wanted to share how this whole thing went down.
First off, I found out about the new season of the show – season 33, they’re calling it. Apparently, it’s gonna kick off on September 17th. So, I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, I love to dance, even if it’s just in my living room. I started looking into it more. They’ve got some cool folks lined up – like that Olympic rugby player, Ilona Maher. She’s gonna be dancing, and they paired her up with this pro dancer, Alan Bersten. I even heard she’s gonna do a cha cha to a Shania Twain song. How fun is that?
Then, I dug a little deeper and found out they’ve got this other dancer, Ezra Sosa, filling in for another pro. He’s pretty young, 22, I think. And get this – he and his sister were like the first siblings to make it to the Top 10 on “So You Think You Can Dance.” It’s all pretty exciting stuff. And there are also two bisexual stars like Ariana Madix and Jason Mraz.
So, I decided to reach out to the folks at GLAAD. They’re this big LGBTQ media advocacy group. I figured they might have some connections or advice. And they did! They were super supportive and helped me get in touch with the show’s producers. I sent in an audition tape, just me doing my thing, and waited. I was so excited!
My Practice
- I started practicing like crazy. I mean, every day, I was in front of the mirror, trying out different moves.
- I even got a few lessons from a local dance teacher, just to polish things up a bit.
- I also watched a ton of old “Dancing with the Stars” episodes, you know, to get a feel for the different styles and what the judges look for.
- And guess what? I got selected!
They said they loved my energy and my story. I was thrilled but also, like, super nervous. I mean, this is a big deal! I picked my song, started working with the show’s choreographers, and just dove into the whole process. It’s been a whirlwind, but I’m loving every minute of it. It’s a dream come true, really. And who knows, maybe I’ll inspire some other folks out there to chase their dreams, no matter how wild they might seem. You never know until you try, right?
Anyways, I just wanted to share my little adventure. It’s been a blast so far, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. Wish me luck!
