This here November, it’s that time again. Time to talk ’bout them transgender folks. They call it Transgender Awareness Month 2023, or somethin’ like that. Ain’t that a mouthful? I reckon it’s important, though. Gotta learn ’bout all sorts of people in this world, right?
Now, I heard it’s from November 13th to the 19th. That’s the special week. They call it Transgender Awareness Week. Sounds like a whole lotta learnin’ to me! It’s when them transgender folks and the people who like ’em, they go ’round teachin’ everybody what it’s all about. Good on ’em, I say. It’s gonna help people understand transgender individuals better this year.
Then, come November 20th, that’s a sad day. They call it the Transgender Day of Remembrance. They remember all them transgender people who ain’t with us no more. It’s like when we remember old Bessie down the road, ‘cept it’s for all them transgender folks, you see? Makes a body think, don’t it?
So, what’s this transgender thing all about anyway? Well, from what I gather, it’s ’bout folks feelin’ like they’re in the wrong body. Like, a fella might feel like he’s really a gal inside, or a gal might feel like she’s really a fella. It’s all mixed up in their heads, I reckon. But they say it ain’t in their heads, it’s in their hearts. Who am I to judge? Live and let live, I always say.
I heard there’s gonna be some doin’s this year durin’ that special week. This transgender awareness month, folks are holdin’ meetin’s and such. Teachin’ people ’bout what it means to be transgender. That’s good. The more you know, the less you fear, that’s what my old pappy used to say.
- Some fella named Chase, gonna be talkin’.
- He’s some big shot with the ACLU.
- He’s gonna talk ’bout transgender justice.
- Sounds important, don’t it?
They say this Chase Strangio fella, he’s the deputy director for somethin’ called “transgender justice” with the ACLU. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I guess he knows a thing or two ’bout this whole transgender business. Maybe he can explain it better than I can.
You know, it ain’t easy bein’ different. Folks can be mean. They don’t understand, so they get scared. And when they get scared, they get mean. That’s why this Transgender Awareness Month 2023 is so important. We need to learn and do better in understanding transgender folks. Gotta teach folks to be kinder, more understandin’. We’re all just people, tryin’ to get by in this world.
I remember back in my day, we didn’t talk ’bout these things. If someone was different, they just kept it to themselves. But I reckon it’s better to talk ’bout it. Get it all out in the open. Like airing out the laundry, you know? Lets the sunshine in.
So, this Transgender Awareness Week, I’m gonna try to learn somethin’ new. Maybe watch one of them meetin’s online, if I can figure out how to work that darn computer. It’s never too late to learn, I reckon. Even for an old bird like me, during this transgender awareness month.
This whole transgender thing, it’s a lot to take in. But I think the most important thing is to be kind. Be respectful. Treat everyone like you wanna be treated. That’s what the good book says, ain’t it? And that’s good enough for me.
This world’s a big place, with all sorts of folks in it. We gotta learn to live together, even if we don’t always understand each other. That’s what makes the world go ’round, I reckon. So, let’s all try to be a little more understandin’ this November. And every month, for that matter.
I hope this transgender awareness month 2023, we can all come together and show love and respect to all, especially to our transgender brothers and sisters. They deserve to live their lives just like anybody else, I say. This whole transgender awareness week business is a good reminder. It’s all about being kind and understanding. That’s it.
