Okay, so today I wanted to try something I saw online – creating that “parent hugging child” effect in a drawing. I’m no artist, but I figured, why not give it a shot? It looked kinda heartwarming and sweet.

First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. Nothing fancy, just regular printer paper and a No. 2 pencil I found lying around. I started by lightly sketching a bigger circle for the parent’s head and a smaller one below it for the child’s head. I made sure to have them overlap a little bit.
Next, I drew in some basic body shapes. For the parent, I made a sort of rounded rectangle shape, and for the child, a smaller, similar shape nestled up against the bigger one. I really just winged it here, trying to get the proportions somewhat right, you know?
Then came the arms. This was probably the trickiest part. I tried to draw the parent’s arms wrapping around the child in a comforting way. I erased and redrew the lines, like, a million times. I wasn’t going for perfect anatomy, just the general feel of a hug.I added little hands peeking out from behind the child’s back.
For the child’s arms, I drew them reaching up and around the parent’s neck.I made sure to keep the whole pose relaxed.
I sketched in some simple facial features – just closed eyes and little smiles. I didn’t want to get bogged down in * aim was for simple and expressive.

After that, I went over the pencil lines with a slightly darker pencil, just to define the shapes a bit more. I added a few little details, like some hair and maybe a hint of * added some shadow.
My Final Thoughts
Honestly, it turned out way better than I expected! It’s definitely not a masterpiece, but it does capture that feeling of warmth and connection. I’m pretty happy with my little experiment. It was a fun way to spend a bit of time, and it reminded me that even simple drawings can be pretty powerful.
