Well, lemme tell ya, this “super straight” thing, it’s all over the place now. Folks keep jabberin’ about it, so I figured I’d try and make sense of it, you know? Like, what in the tarnation is a super straight anyway?
From what I gather, it’s somethin’ new. These young’uns, they come up with all sorts of things on them there interwebs. This one, they say it started on somethin’ called “TikTok” and then got big on another thing called “4chan.” Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me, but that’s where it started, they say.
Now, these “super straights,” they claim they’re straight, you know, like men likin’ women and women likin’ men. But they got this extra thing, see? They say they only like folks born the gender they are now. So, a “super straight” man, he’ll only like a woman who was born a woman, not someone who, you know, changed later on. And a “super straight” woman, same deal, only likes men born men.
- Straight: Men likes women, women likes men. Simple as that.
- Super Straight: Likes only people born the gender they are now. That’s the “super” part, I guess.
But here’s the thing, and this is where it gets messy. Lots of folks are sayin’ this “super straight” thing ain’t so innocent. They sayin’ it’s just a way to be mean to them LGBTQ+ folks, especially the transgender people. They sayin’ it’s “transphobic,” whatever that means. Sounds like fancy talk for bein’ hateful, if you ask me.
See, some people, they’re born one way, but they feel like they’re supposed to be somethin’ else. A boy might feel like he’s really a girl inside, or a girl might feel like she’s really a boy. And sometimes, they go through a lot of trouble to make their outsides match their insides. That’s what bein’ transgender is, from what I understand.
And these “super straights,” they’re sayin’ they don’t wanna date those folks. Now, some folks might say, “Well, that’s their choice, ain’t it?” And maybe it is. But a lot of people are sayin’ it ain’t just about choice. They sayin’ this “super straight” thing is just a new way to be prejudiced, a way to make transgender people feel bad about themselves. They sayin’ it’s like those “straight pride” marches they used to have way back when, just a way to be against gay people.
It’s like this, see? If you say you only like apples and you don’t like oranges, that’s fine. That’s your taste. But if you start yellin’ about how oranges are disgusting and anyone who likes oranges is weird, well, that’s just bein’ mean, ain’t it? And that’s what folks are sayin’ about this “super straight” thing. They sayin’ it’s not just about who someone likes, it’s about bein’ disrespectful and hateful to a whole group of people.
This whole thing reminds me of when I was young. Back then, people were prejudiced against all sorts of folks. Different colors, different religions, different ways of livin’. And it always caused trouble. Always made people feel bad. Seems like we ain’t learned nothin’, always findin’ new ways to be hateful to each other.
So, what is a “super straight”? Well, they say it’s just about who they like. But a whole lot of other folks are sayin’ it’s somethin’ a whole lot uglier than that. They sayin’ it’s about hatin’ and excludin’ and makin’ people feel like they don’t belong. And me? Well, I just think folks ought to be kind to each other, no matter what. This world’s got enough troubles without us addin’ to it with all this hatefulness. That’s what I think. Be kind, that’s all there is to it.
And this “super straight” thing, well, it just seems like another way to stir up trouble and make folks feel bad. I don’t like it one bit. Seems like these young’uns got too much time on their hands, makin’ up new ways to be mean. They ought to be out there workin’ hard and bein’ good to their neighbors, instead of sittin’ around on them computers, thinkin’ up ways to cause trouble.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this “super straight” business. Maybe I don’t understand it all, bein’ an old woman and all, but that’s what I hear and what I see. And from where I’m standin’, it don’t look good. It just don’t look good at all.
