Okay, so, about this whole “Super Bowl Gay” thing, I decided to see what the fuss was about. I’m not usually one for following trends, but I heard there were a few ads with LGBTQ+ folks in them during the game, so I figured, why not check it out?

First thing I did was try to watch the game. Now, I’m not a big football guy, but I sat through the whole thing. Or most of it, at least. I might’ve dozed off a couple of times, to be honest. The point is, I was there, watching for these ads.
I grabbed my notebook and a pen ’cause I wanted to keep track of what I saw. Every time an ad came on, I was paying attention, looking for anything that seemed, you know, inclusive.
- First one I noticed, it had a rainbow flag in the background. Subtle, but it was there. I made a note of it in my notebook.
- Then there was another one with a couple of guys holding hands. It was quick, but I caught it. Jotted that down, too.
- The third one was pretty obvious. It had a drag queen right in the center of the screen. Couldn’t miss that one. Wrote it down, underlined it for emphasis.
- And then there was one more, the fourth, it featured a transgender woman. She was pretty prominent in the ad.
So, yeah, I saw four ads in total that had some LGBTQ+ representation. Not bad, I guess. It’s definitely more than what I remember seeing in the past. It got me thinking, maybe things are actually changing a bit, even in places like the Super Bowl. It made me feel a little hopeful, you know?
After the game, I did a bit of digging online, just to see what other people were saying. Found out that an organization called GLAAD was tracking these ads, too. They also counted four inclusive ads. So, I wasn’t just seeing things, which was kind of a relief.
Anyway, that was my little adventure into the world of Super Bowl ads. It was interesting, to say the least. I might not be a football convert, but I definitely came away with something to think about. I recorded my observations and reflections in my journal. That’s it. My experience was shared as is. Hope someone will have a look.
