Well, howdy there! Let’s talk about them queers in Texas. You know, the folks they call LGBTQ+ nowadays.

What’s the big deal about queers in Texas anyway?
Seems like everybody’s got somethin’ to say about ’em. I heard on the TV, they was talkin’ and talkin’ about these folks’ private lives, makin’ it everybody’s business. Millions of ’em, they said! Can you believe that? Millions! And all them politicians down in Austin, they’re yappin’ about it too. “Coalition” this, and “equality” that. Sounds like a whole lotta fuss if you ask me.
- LGBTQ+ Rights: That’s what they call it, the right to be who you are, love who you love. Can’t say I understand it all, but I reckon everybody deserves to be treated decent, long as they ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
- LGBTQ Issues: Lord, there’s a whole mess of issues. Seems like some folks don’t like who these people are, or who they love. And they make it hard for ’em, I guess.
- Texas LGBTQ Bills: Them politicians, always passin’ bills, makin’ laws. Some of them laws, they say, they ain’t fair to the queers. Don’t know the ins and outs of it, but it sounds like a heap of trouble.
Now, I ain’t no lawyer, but I heard tell there’s laws, federal laws, that say you can’t fire someone just ’cause they’re gay or somethin’. Or ’cause they feel like a man even if they was born a woman, or the other way around. This happened back in 2020, they had some big court cases. And it applies to Texas too, they say. So, if your boss tries to fire you for that, you can tell him to go fly a kite, I reckon.
Most folks in Texas, they’re alright with it, I think.
At least, that’s what they say on the news. Most folks don’t care if two men wanna get hitched, or two women. They say it ain’t none of their business, and I reckon they’re right. And they don’t think you should be treatin’ people bad just ’cause they’re different. Seems fair enough to me.

Texas ain’t the best, but it ain’t the worst either.
I heard tell there’s places where it’s better to be queer, and places where it’s worse. They say Nevada, that’s the best place. Not too many folks gettin’ beat up or bothered just ’cause they’re different. But Texas, well, we’re somewhere in the middle, I guess. We got our good folks and our bad folks, just like everywhere else.
Hate crimes, that’s a whole ‘nother story.
It’s a sin, that’s what it is. Hatin’ someone just ’cause they’re different. And sometimes, that hate turns into somethin’ ugly, somethin’ violent. They call it hate crimes, and it happens to them queer folks sometimes. Just ’cause of who they love, or who they are. Makes my blood boil, it does. We’re all God’s children, ain’t we?
All in For Equality, that’s what they say.

That coalition, the one I was talkin’ about earlier. They want everybody to be treated equal, no matter who they love or how they feel inside. Sounds like a good thing to me. We all bleed the same blood, don’t we? We all want the same things, really. A little bit of happiness, a little bit of peace. And maybe a good piece of pie now and then.
So, that’s the story on them queers in Texas, as best as I can tell it. It ain’t always easy, bein’ different. But times are changin’, I reckon. Slowly, but surely. And maybe one day, it won’t matter who you love, or how you feel inside. Maybe one day, we’ll all just be folks, tryin’ to get by in this crazy world. And that, I think, would be a good thing.

Remember, it ain’t right to judge folks just ’cause they’re different. Treat everyone with kindness and respect, that’s what I always say. And if you don’t like it, well, that’s your problem, not mine. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits.
