Okay, so, about this “overcontrolled personality” thing, I’ve been doing some digging and it turns out I might have some of these traits. It all started when I was reading up on personality stuff, and something just clicked. I’m one of those people who like things to be, well, under control. But apparently, it can be a bit too much sometimes.

Overcontrolled Personality: Signs You Have It and Easy Tips to Manage It

So, I decided to take a closer look at my own behaviors. Started keeping a journal, just jotting down when I felt this urge to control things. Turns out, it’s pretty often. Like, I’d freak out a little if plans changed suddenly or if someone did something differently than I expected.

My Own Ways

  • Keeping a Journal: I wrote down daily stuff, especially when I felt that control itch.

  • Mindfulness: Tried to be more aware of what’s going on around me and inside me without judging.

  • Talking to People: I started opening up to a few close friends about it. Asked for their feedback and how they see me.

  • Little Experiments: Challenged myself to let go in small ways. Like, not planning every detail of a weekend trip or letting someone else pick the movie.

The mindfulness part was tough but eye-opening. I realized how often I was trying to control not just my own actions but also how other people behaved around me. It was like I had this script in my head for how everything should go, and if someone went off-script, I’d get anxious.

Sharing this with my friends was hard. I mean, who wants to admit they’re a bit of a control freak? But they were super supportive. They shared their own quirks and it made me feel less alone. Plus, they gave me some honest feedback, which was sometimes tough to hear but really helpful.

Those little experiments were interesting. Letting go, even in small ways, felt weird at first. It was like I was so used to being in the driver’s seat that being a passenger felt uncomfortable. But with practice, it got a bit easier.

I stumbled upon this therapy called Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT). It’s all about being more open and flexible. Sounded perfect for me. I haven’t started it yet, but I’m looking into it. Seems like it could really help with my issues.

So, that’s where I’m at now. I’m still that person who likes things in order, but I’m learning to loosen the reins a bit. It’s a work in progress, and I’m sure I’ll have more to share as I go along this path. Trying to be more open, not just with others, but with myself too. Accepting that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. It’s a journey, and I’m just taking it one step at a time.

I never thought I’d be one of those people sharing their personal stuff online, but here I am. Figured it might help someone else who’s going through something similar. Or maybe it’s just for me, a way to process it all. Either way, it feels good to get it out there. So thanks for listening, or reading, I guess. That’s my story for now.
