Okay, so the other day I was trying to tackle this thing called “Nobody Said It Was Easy” by The Four Horsemen. It’s a track from way back, 1991 or something. I heard it was originally with Def American but got a new vinyl release later with some extra stuff.

Getting Started
First, I had to find the darn thing. I dug through some old album reviews and track lists online to make sure I had the right one. The whole vibe is hard rock, which is totally my jam.
Diving In
Once I found it, I gave it a good listen. Man, this song takes me back. It’s got that reflective, almost ballad-like feel, even though it’s rock. There’s something about it that just makes you think. These guys were apparently formed in the late 80s by a Welsh guitarist named Stephen Harris, who also went by “Kid Chaos” or “Haggis.” He was in some other bands too, like Zodiac Mindwarp, and even played bass for The Cult for a bit.
Digging Deeper
Then I started looking into the band’s name, The Four Horsemen. Turns out, it’s a reference to the Bible, the Book of Revelation, to be exact. There are these four horsemen that show up when the first four of seven seals are opened. Each one represents a part of the apocalypse: conquest, war, famine, and death. Heavy stuff, right?
The First Horseman
- In the Book of Revelation, the first one is on a white horse.
- Carries a bow.
- Gets a crown.
- Represents conquest, maybe even pestilence or the Antichrist.
The Second Horseman
- The second one has a sword.
- Rides a red horse.
- Brings war, conflict, and strife.
Putting It Together
The band apparently broke up over two decades ago. But there is some rumor that this song or CD was like a summary of their crazy life, living on the edge. And some people are wondering how their producer, Rick Rubin, even managed to capture all that. Then I was confused because I read an article about another The Four Horsemen with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings. I had to read more and figure out that this is a different band.
Anyway, that’s my journey through “Nobody Said It Was Easy” and The Four Horsemen. It was a wild ride, going from a rock song to biblical references and back again. It is kinda cool how music can lead you down all these different paths, isn’t it?
