Alright, so this morning, I woke up, and you know how it is, sometimes you just want a little something… different. Not a big project, just a small win to start the day. And the idea popped into my head: a morning GIF!

Now, I’m not one of those fancy graphic designer types. Not at all. My drawing skills are, let’s say, ‘enthusiastic amateur’ at best. So, the thought of making an animation? Seemed like a mountain to climb. I was just staring at my screen, thinking, “How am I even gonna start this?” I almost gave up and just scrolled through cat videos, honestly.
Finding My Way
But then I figured, hey, it doesn’t have to be Pixar-level stuff. The whole point was just a simple, cheerful little thing. So I decided to keep it dead simple. I remembered I had this old, super basic drawing program on my computer. Nothing special, the kind of thing that probably came with it years ago. Good enough!
Here’s what I did, step-by-step, more or less:
- First, I thought, “What says morning?” A sunrise, right? Classic. So, my first drawing was just a dark blue sky, maybe a hint of a line for the horizon. Really basic.
- Then, for the next picture, I added a tiny little yellow blob peeking over that line. That was my sun starting to show up.
- Picture three, the blob got a bit bigger, a bit higher. I added some lighter blue to the sky around it.
- Picture four, sun’s up a bit more, maybe some orange and yellow streaks. I was getting into it by now!
- I think I made about five or six of these little pictures, each one showing the sun moving up just a little bit more. In the last one, I even tried to scribble “Good Morning!” but my handwriting with a mouse is terrible, so it looked more like “Gooo Moomin!” Oh well.
Putting It All Together
Okay, so I had a bunch of static images. Now, how to make them move? I remembered there are these online GIF maker things. Super easy. I just found one, uploaded my pictures in the order I drew them. There was a setting for how fast the pictures should change. I played around with that a bit – too fast and it was a blur, too slow and it was just a slideshow.
I found a speed that looked okay, hit the “create” button, and waited a few seconds. And there it was! My very own morning GIF. The sun sort of wobbled up, and the “Gooo Moomin!” text appeared. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But you know what? It made me chuckle.

It was just a silly little thing I knocked together in, I don’t know, maybe half an hour? But it was my creation. It felt good to just make something, even something small and a bit wobbly. Definitely beat scrolling through endless feeds first thing in the morning. Gave my brain a little nudge to get going. So yeah, that was my morning gif adventure. Maybe I’ll try making a coffee cup steam next time, who knows?
