So, I got this Nexplanon thing a while back, you know, the birth control implant that goes in your arm? Well, I decided it was time for it to come out. I did some digging around and found out that Planned Parenthood does these removals, even if you didn’t get it put in there originally. Figured I’d share my experience, ’cause who knows, maybe someone else is in the same boat.

First, I called up my local Planned Parenthood. The lady on the phone was super nice and helped me set up an appointment. I think you can also book online, but I’m an old-fashioned gal and like to hear a human voice. They asked a few questions, nothing too personal, and we found a time that worked for both of us. Easy peasy.
- Made the appointment: Called Planned Parenthood, booked a slot.
When the day came, I drove over to the clinic. It was pretty much like any other doctor’s visit. Checked in at the front desk, filled out a bit of paperwork, you know the drill. Then I waited in the waiting room, scrolling through my phone, trying not to think too much about the tiny robot arm they were gonna take out of me.
- Checked in: Standard check-in process, some forms to sign.
A nurse called my name, and I followed her to a little exam room. She was really chill, explained everything that was going to happen. She said it would only take a few minutes, which was a relief. I’m not a huge fan of needles, but honestly, it wasn’t bad at all.
- Got prepped: Nurse explained the procedure.
The doctor came in, and it was go-time. They gave me a shot of local anesthetic in my arm – that’s the stuff that numbs you up. It was a little pinch, but nothing major. Then I just laid back and let them do their thing.
- Got numbed up: Local anesthetic shot in the arm.
I couldn’t really feel much, just a bit of pressure. I tried not to look, honestly, just closed my eyes and thought about what I was gonna have for dinner. They made a tiny cut, and then they kind of wiggled the implant out. It felt a little weird, but not painful.

- Implant removed: A little incision, then the implant was taken out.
After that, they put a little bandage on my arm and gave me some instructions on how to take care of it. They told me to keep it dry for a day or two, and to watch out for any signs of infection. Pretty standard stuff.
- Aftercare: Got a bandage and some basic instructions.
The Whole Thing
Honestly, the whole thing was way easier than I thought it would be. Everyone at Planned Parenthood was really professional and made me feel comfortable. It didn’t cost me anything because of my insurance, but I heard it’s not super expensive even without insurance. If you’re thinking about getting your Nexplanon removed, I definitely recommend giving Planned Parenthood a call. They know what they’re doing, and they make the whole process pretty painless. Now I am free of the little bugger, and ready to move on with my life!
