Okay, so, senior night’s coming up, and I’ve gotta write something to my folks. Honestly, I was kinda stumped at first. Like, what do you even say? It’s a big deal, you know? This is the night to celebrate all we’ve done in school, and I wouldn’t be here without them.

So, I started by just thinking about all the stuff they’ve done for me. I mean, they’ve been there since day one, right? Driving me to practice, helping me with homework (even when they didn’t get it either, haha), and just, like, being my biggest supporters. It’s a lot to be thankful for. But I knew I couldn’t just give them a grocery list of things I’m grateful for. That’s not really me.
Then, I decided to look up some ideas online. I found some suggestions about writing a memorable quote, or maybe a thank you message, but none of that felt quite right. Most were too formal or cheesy. Some talked about how great I am, how much I achieved. I love my parents, so I want to focus on them. I thought about maybe telling a story, a specific memory that really showed how much they mean to me. That felt more personal, more genuine.
So I dug through some old photos and started reminiscing. I remembered that time in middle school when I totally bombed that science project. I was so bummed, but my dad spent the whole weekend helping me fix it. We ended up staying up all night, but we got it done, and I actually learned a lot. Or that time I was so nervous about my first big game, and my mom gave me this pep talk that totally calmed me down. She always knows what to say.
Those were the moments I knew I needed to include. Those were the moments that showed the real impact my parents had. They taught me that it’s okay to fail, that you can pick yourself up again, that they’ll always have my back. They have my biggest support.
I started writing, and it just flowed from there. I told them how much those moments meant to me, how they shaped me into the person I am today. I thanked them for their patience, their love, their unwavering belief in me, even when I doubted myself. I admitted I don’t say it enough, but I truly love them.
In the end, I think I came up with something pretty special. It’s not perfect, but it’s real, it’s from the heart, and I think that’s what matters most. It’s a letter that shows my parents just how much I appreciate them, and how grateful I am to have them in my life. I hope they like it, I really do.
