Alright, so I started this thing a while back. Kind of a personal project, I guess. I just called it “i love everything about you” in my head. Didn’t really know where it was going when I began.
It wasn’t some grand plan. Things just felt a bit… routine, you know? Like I wasn’t really seeing things properly. So, I figured, why not try and actually list the good stuff? Got myself a basic notebook, the cheap kind, and a pen that worked most of the time. That was the setup. Simple.
Getting Started – The Easy Part
So, the first step was just starting. I decided I’d try and jot down things I appreciated. About my partner, mostly, but sometimes just things in general. At the beginning, it was a breeze. You know, the obvious things:
- The way she hums off-key when she’s cooking.
- How she always remembers birthdays, even distant cousins.
- That specific silly face she makes.
Easy stuff. Filled half a page pretty quick. Felt good, like ticking off boxes.
Digging a Bit Deeper
But after those first few entries, I had to actually think. The obvious stuff was done. Now I had to really pay attention. This was the real practice, I guess. I started noticing the tiny things, things I hadn’t consciously clocked before.
Like the way she lines up her shoes perfectly by the door. Or how she folds the newspaper exactly the same way every single time. Sounds boring, right? But it wasn’t about how exciting the thing was, it was about noticing it. Acknowledging it. I’d just write it down. Sometimes just a word or two. “Shoe lineup.” “Newspaper fold.” Whatever came to mind.
The Routine and What Came Up
I tried to do it most days. Not like a strict rule, but I kept the notebook nearby. Some days I’d write a bunch, some days just one thing. Some days, honestly, I forgot or just didn’t feel like it. And that was okay too. No pressure.
What I found was, it forces you to shift your focus. It’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day annoyances. We all do it. But deliberately looking for the good bits, even tiny ones, kinda retrains your brain a little. It wasn’t always easy. Sometimes looking for the good stuff made me realize I was annoyed about something else entirely. It brings stuff to the surface, you know? Not always comfortable, but part of the process.
Where It’s At Now
So, I’ve been doing this on and off. The notebook’s still around, got quite a few pages filled now. Did it magically change everything overnight? Nah, life doesn’t work like that. But it definitely changed my perspective. Made me less likely to sweat the small stuff and more likely to appreciate the little moments.
It’s just a simple action, really. Grab a notebook, pay attention, write stuff down. But yeah, for me, it’s been a pretty solid practice. Makes you see things a bit clearer, I reckon. That’s the whole story. Nothing fancy, just something I did, and still do sometimes.
