Okay, so I’ve been on the pill for, like, forever, and I’ve always wondered about mixing it with booze. I mean, who hasn’t? Parties happen, happy hours are a thing, and sometimes you just want a glass of wine with dinner. So, I finally decided to stop just guessing and actually figure this out.

My Deep Dive (aka Google Search)
First, I hit up Google. Let me tell you, there’s a LOT of conflicting info out there. Some sites were all “OMG, NO DRINKING EVER!” and others were way more chill. It was confusing, to say the least. I started digging through a bunch of articles, trying to find something that sounded, you know, reliable.
Sorting Through the Mess
I found some stuff that made sense. Basically, most articles said that having a drink or two probably won’t mess with how well your birth control works. The pill still does its job of preventing pregnancy, even if you’ve had a couple of cocktails.
But—and this is a big BUT—they all warned about going overboard. Heavy drinking can be a problem for a few reasons:
- It can make you forgetful. Oops, missed a pill! That’s definitely not good.
- It can mess with your liver. Both alcohol and some birth control pills can affect your liver, so combining them in large amounts could potentially be a problem.
- It can lead to riskier behavior. Let’s be real, when you’re drunk, you might not make the best decisions about, ahem, other forms of protection.
My Experiment (Very Unscientific)
So, I decided to, uh, test this out. Not in a crazy way, of course! I just mean, I continued my normal life, which sometimes involves a glass of wine with friends or a beer at a BBQ. I made sure to always take my pill at the same time, like I always do, and I tried not to go crazy with the drinking.
The Results (So Far)
Honestly? Nothing changed. I didn’t get pregnant. I didn’t feel any different. I stuck to my usual routine, and everything was fine. I have been very strict about drinking.

My takeaway? Moderation is key. Having a drink or two while on birth control seems to be okay, at least for me. But it’s definitely not a good idea to get wasted regularly. Not only for your birth control, but for your overall health, too!
I want you to know. I’m not a doctor, just a regular person sharing my experience. If you’re worried, definitely talk to your own doctor to get the best advice for you.
