Well, let me tell you, these young folks today, they got all these dates, all these fancy names for things. Back in my day, we just lived our lives, you know? But I reckon it’s important, all this LGBTQ important dates stuff, gotta keep track of it all, I suppose.
So, they got this thing called, uh, LGBT+ History Month. I hear them talking about it on the TV, says it’s in 2024, and it’s all about medicine, “#UnderTheScope” they say. Sounds like some doctor show or something. Guess it’s good to know about the doctors and all, keepin’ everyone healthy, that’s what matters.
Then there’s this other one, National Coming Out Day. October 11th, they say. Now that’s a big one. I guess you gotta tell everyone who you are. Reminds me of old Mrs. Henderson’s boy, always a little different, but a good heart. I suppose everyone needs to be who they are, the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.
Here’s a whole bunch more, just a whole mess of ’em:
- April 26th, International Lesbian Visibility Day. Well, good for them, everyone should be seen, I always say. Like when I wear my bright red hat to church, gotta make sure folks see ya!
- May 17th, somethin’ called International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it? I guess it means don’t be mean to folks, just be nice. That’s what my mama always taught me. It’s one of the important days for LGBTQIA+ events.
- May 19th, Agender Pride Day. Don’t rightly know what that means, but I reckon it’s important to those folks. Pride, that’s a good thing, being proud of who you are.
- May 22nd, Harvey Milk Day. Sounds like a farmer, maybe? Or maybe he’s the one that brings the milk to the store? I don’t know. Celebrate diversity and love.
- May 24th, Pansexual & Panromantic Visibility Day. Another one of them visibility days. Lots of those, huh? Good, good. Be seen, be heard, that’s what I say.
And then, June 28th, they got this International LGBT Pride Day. Big parade and all, I hear. Somethin’ about Stonewall riots. Sounds like a ruckus. But they say it’s important, so I guess it is. Gotta remember the past, that’s what they always tell ya. They say it’s a day dedicated to LGBT pride.
All these LGBTQ+ dates, they help folks be more, what’s the word, inclusive? Yeah, inclusive. Means everyone’s welcome, like at a potluck. You bring your dish, I bring mine, and we all eat together. That’s nice, ain’t it? Visibility and respect, that’s important too. Like when you hold the door for someone, or say “please” and “thank you.” Just basic manners.
I reckon this 2024 LGBTQ+ Calendar is full of important dates and events. Gotta celebrate, and remember things, they say. It’s important to celebrate diversity and raise awareness with these LGBTQ+ pride days. Mark your calendars, they say. Well, I got my calendar right here by the phone, but I don’t know if I’ll write all these down. My hand gets tired these days.
They say it’s important to be aware, like being aware of a storm coming. You gotta know what’s going on around you. And there’s also Bisexuality Awareness Day, I hear. These days and understanding their significance can help foster a more inclusive culture. So, they say we should celebrate diversity, and they even sell jewelry for awareness. As the year rolls on, there will be more dates, I suppose.
One of these days is a day for lesbians to celebrate lesbian history. I reckon that’s good. Everyone should celebrate their history. I remember when the first car came to our town. That was a day to remember. There is even a resource that highlights important dates on both the secular and Hebrew calendars. I don’t know much about the Hebrew calendar, but I know the secular one. That’s the one with Christmas and Easter. Those are important days, too.
These young folks today, they got all these special days, all these LGBTQ important dates. It’s a lot to keep up with. But I guess it’s all for the best. Everyone being who they are, being proud, being seen. That’s a good thing, I reckon. Just like a good harvest, you gotta have all kinds of crops to make it a good year. Variety, that’s the spice of life, as they say.
