Okay, so here’s the deal with getting my prescription refilled through Planned Parenthood. It wasn’t some big dramatic event, just something I needed to get done, you know?

First off, I realized I was running low. Like, down to the last few pills low. Definitely time to sort it out before I actually ran out completely. My mind immediately went to, “Okay, how do I do this again?” It had been a while.
Making Contact
I remembered they have that online portal thing, but honestly, sometimes just talking to a person feels easier, less chance of clicking the wrong button or missing a step. So, I dug out the number for my local Planned Parenthood clinic. Found it on their website pretty easily, which was a good start.
I gave them a call. Got the automated system first, navigated through the options – press 1 for this, press 2 for that – until I got to the bit about prescriptions or talking to the nursing staff. Had to wait on hold for maybe 5-10 minutes? Not too bad, really. Put the phone on speaker while I was tidying up.
The Actual Refill Request
Finally, someone picked up. Sounded friendly enough. I explained I was a current patient and needed to get my birth control prescription refilled. They asked for my name and date of birth to pull up my file. Standard stuff.
Once they found me in the system, they asked a few quick questions:

- Which prescription was it? (I told them the name).
- Any changes in my health since my last visit?
- Any new medications I was taking?
- Was I having any problems with the current prescription?
Simple questions, really. Just making sure everything was still okay to continue the same meds. For me, everything was the same, no issues, so that part was quick. Super important to be honest here, though. If something had changed, that’s the time to mention it.
Then, the crucial part: “Which pharmacy do you want this sent to?” I gave them the name and address of my usual pharmacy. They confirmed they had it on file already, which saved some time. They said they’d send the request over electronically.
Getting the Meds
The person on the phone told me it could take anywhere from a few hours up to maybe 24 hours for the pharmacy to receive and process the electronic prescription. They suggested calling the pharmacy later that day or the next morning to check if it was ready before heading over.
So, I waited until the next morning just to be safe. Called my pharmacy, gave them my name, and asked if they had a prescription ready from Planned Parenthood. They checked and boom, it was there and ready for pickup. Easy peasy.
Went down to the pharmacy after work. Just had to show my ID, sign for it, pay my usual copay (thank goodness for insurance, right?). Walked out with my refill in hand.

And that was pretty much it. Honestly, the whole process was smooth. Made the call, answered some questions, confirmed the pharmacy, and picked it up. No major hurdles. Just took that first step of actually making the call. Glad I didn’t put it off any longer!
