Okay, so, I wanted to get into this whole LGBTQ+ holidays thing for 2024. I’m not super plugged into all the dates and what they mean, but I figured it’s something worth understanding, you know? So I started digging.

First, I went online and just started searching around about LGBTQ+ holidays. There’s a bunch of stuff out there. I found a few sites that listed a whole calendar of events, especially pride parades, which is pretty cool. It looks like there are celebrations all over the world!
- I noticed that June seems to be a big deal, like, the main month.
- Apparently, it’s been officially recognized for a while now, like, back to Clinton and Obama, which is kind of interesting.
Diving Deeper into Pride
Then I stumbled upon some info about the NYC Pride theme for this year: “Reflect. Empower. Unite.” I guess that’s their main event, and they’ve been doing it for 40 years. That’s a long time! The theme is supposed to be about the Pride March being a place where LGBTQ+ folks can come together and feel good. I kinda like that. It means something.
I also tried to figure out what LGBTQIA+ actually stands for. I mean, I know the basic ones, but the whole acronym can get a bit long. So it’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual/Aromantic. I think I can finally remember it.
It seems like a lot of these events are about celebrating people’s identities and just being themselves. And there are also days that intersect with other important stuff, like Black History Month and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. So, it’s not just about LGBTQ+ issues on their own, but also how they connect with other groups and experiences.
Anyway, I’m still learning about all of this. I figure it’s something that’s good to know about, and maybe even participate in, just to show support and be a better person. It feels good to know more.

I wrote down some notes and I think I’ll try to attend a few events this year. Let’s see how it goes!
