This thing, you know, the IUD and PMS, what’s the deal? Some folks say it helps, some say it makes things worse. It’s like, you put that little thingy, an IUD, up there, and it’s supposed to stop you from having babies. But does it mess with your PMS? I heard it don’t really change how you feel before your period. But then, there’s different kinds of these IUDs.

One kind has hormones, like that progestin stuff. They say that one might make you feel more moody or give you headaches, like when you get your PMS. But it can also make your period lighter. You know, less blood and not so much hurting. It’s like a trade-off, I guess. You gotta decide if you want less bleeding or less of that moody feeling before your period.
Hormonal IUDs and PMS
There is this one type, they call it the hormonal IUD. It’s got that progestin in it. Heard some ladies say it makes their PMS feel worse. Like, they get more zits, their chest hurts more, and they get headaches. And they feel like snapping at everyone. Just like before their period, but maybe even worse.
- Makes you feel grumpy.
- Gives you headaches.
- Makes your chest hurt.
- But, makes your period lighter.
They say it’s because of that hormone. It messes with your body. But, this same hormonal IUD can make your period lighter. So, less blood. And maybe it won’t hurt as much. I don’t know, some folks can handle the moody feelings if it means less bleeding. Some can’t. It’s a real mixed bag, I tell ya.
If you already have bad PMS, I don’t know if this hormonal IUD is the best thing. Might make it worse. But if you just want to not have a baby, and your periods are heavy, then maybe it’s worth a shot. It’s all about what you can handle, I guess.
Copper IUDs and PMS
Then there’s this other kind, the copper IUD. This one don’t have any hormones. It’s just copper. They say it don’t really mess with your PMS. You might still feel cranky and all that before your period, just like you did before. It won’t make it better, but it probably won’t make it worse either.

But this copper IUD, it can make your period heavier. More blood. And it might hurt more, too. So, you gotta think about that. Do you want to deal with more bleeding and maybe more pain during your period? If your PMS is already bad, maybe this is a better choice than the hormonal IUD. But if your periods are already heavy, then maybe not.
- Won’t change your PMS much.
- But makes your period heavier.
- And might make it hurt more.
It’s a real tough choice. There ain’t no easy answer. Every woman is different. What works for one might not work for another. And these doctors, they don’t always know either. They just tell you what they learned in their books. You gotta try things out and see what works for you.
Getting an IUD
When you get one of these IUDs put in, it might hurt. They say it’s like a bad period cramp. And you might bleed a little, too. For a few days, you might feel kinda yucky. And your periods might be all messed up for a while. Heavier, longer, more painful. But they say it usually gets better after a few months.
Some women, they say their IUD made their PMS better. The hormonal IUD, that is. They say they don’t feel as moody or as bloated. And their periods are lighter, so that’s a plus. But other women, they say it made their PMS worse. More headaches, more mood swings. It’s all over the place.
And then there’s the pill. That’s another thing altogether. Some women take the pill, and they have that week where they don’t take the hormone pills. That can make their PMS worse, too. Because the hormones drop all of a sudden. So, if you’re sensitive to that, the pill might not be the best choice either.

If you are suffering from bad PMS, there are some things that you can try, they said. Try eating less salty food. Or maybe get more sleep. Some people said even exercise helps, though I don’t know about that. If you are tired and moody, the last thing you want to do is exercise. Then there are some who said drinking less coffee can help too. But I like my coffee.
It’s like a puzzle, this whole IUD and PMS thing. You gotta figure out what piece fits where. And it ain’t easy. You might have to try a few different things before you find something that works. And even then, it might not be perfect. This IUD thing isn’t magic. It’s just another thing to try. And it might help, or it might not. You just don’t know until you try. And even the same thing may not work for different folks.
