Well, let me tell you, this whole thing about is it wrong to be gay, it’s got folks all riled up. Some folks say it ain’t right, some say it’s just fine. Me? I just think folks should be able to love who they love. Ain’t nobody’s business but their own, you know?
I heard some fellas talkin’ ’bout how it ain’t natural. They say it’s against God and all that. But I seen a lot of things in my time, and I tell ya, love is love. Gay people, they just want to be happy like everyone else. Why’s that so wrong?
- Some folks say it’s a choice.
- Some folks say you’re born that way.
- I don’t know ’bout all that.
I just know that being gay ain’t hurtin’ nobody. These LGBTQ people, they just want to live their lives. They want to get married, have families, just like everyone else. What’s the harm in that? This whole gay rights thing, it just makes sense to me.
I heard on the TV that there are some places where they hurt gay folks. Can you believe that? Just ’cause of who they love. It’s a darn shame. It is not about is it wrong to be gay, but about people being mean and nasty. They’re just scared of what they don’t understand, I reckon.
That Pew Research, they talk about what people think about things. They got all these numbers and such. But it all comes down to this: Are you gonna be kind to folks, or are you gonna be mean? That’s what matters. Being gay or straight, doesn’t make a difference to that.
Now, I heard some folks sayin’ that gay people are tryin’ to change the world. They say they’re tryin’ to make everyone gay. That’s just silly talk. They just want to be treated like everyone else. They ain’t tryin’ to change nothin’ but people’s minds, I guess. And maybe that ain’t such a bad thing.
Some folks get all worked up about what they call gender identity. That’s what I heard, anyway. They say it’s all confusin’. But it ain’t that hard. You just gotta treat folks with respect, that’s all. If someone says they’re a man, then they’re a man. If they say they’re a woman, then they’re a woman. It ain’t rocket science.
I heard about this World Pride Month. Sounds like a big party. Good for them, I say. Let them celebrate who they are. Everyone deserves to be happy. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. And LGBTQ people face challenges, that I hear. It ain’t easy being different in this world.
They talk about these LGBT myths. Like gay people are all the same or somethin’. That’s just dumb. They’re just people, like you and me. Some are nice, some ain’t so nice. Just like everyone else. Don’t matter if they like fellas, or girls, or whatever. It’s about who they are inside that counts.
I even heard that some animals can be gay. Imagine that! Sheep, they say. It just goes to show, it ain’t somethin’ people made up. It’s just a part of nature, I guess. So why folks gotta make such a big fuss about it? It ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
Back in my day, folks didn’t talk about these things. But times are changin’. People are more open now. And that’s a good thing. The more folks talk about it, the more they understand. And the more they understand, the less they’ll be scared. And that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Understandin’ and acceptin’ folks for who they are.
These gay rights are important. They say it is about access to some kind of medicine, hormone therapy or something. Also about some kind of surgery, safe gender-affirming surgeries. Sounds serious, and not easy for LGBTQ people. These people just want to live in peace.
So, is it wrong to be gay? I don’t think so. I think it’s wrong to be mean to folks just ’cause they’re different. I think it’s wrong to judge folks ’cause of who they love. Love is love, that’s what I always say. And that’s all that matters. It ain’t about who’s right or wrong. It’s about bein’ kind and treatin’ folks with respect. That’s what my mama taught me, and that’s what I believe.
These church folks, the Catholic leaders, they used to say bad things about gay people. But now they don’t say so many bad things. They are changing. That is a good thing, right?
Now some places have changed the rules, the laws, about gay marriage and gay rights. It is good for LGBTQ people. They can live better and be happier.
I heard some people say “queer” is a bad word. But some gay people, they use this word for themselves. Like, they take this bad word and make it not bad anymore. That is smart, right?
So, this thing about is it wrong to be gay, it is like asking if it is wrong to have brown hair or blue eyes. It is just how people are. And people should just let other people be who they are.
